When things go wrong, as they sometimes will, When the road you’re trudging seems all uphill, When the funds are low and the debts are high, And you want to smile, but you have to sigh, When care is pressing you down a bit, Rest if you must, but don’t you quit. Life is queer with its twists and turns, As every one of us sometimes learns, And many a fellow turns about When he might have won had he stuck it out. Don’t give up though the pace seems slow - You may succeed with another blow. Often the goal is nearer than It seems to a faint and faltering man; Often the struggler has given up When he might have captured the victor’s cup; And he learned too late when the night came down, How close he was to the golden crown. Success is failure turned inside out - The silver tint in the clouds of doubt, And you never can tell how close you are, It might be near when it seems afar; So stick to the fight when you’re hardest hit - It’s when things seem worst that you must not quit. ~John Greenleaf Whittier

My oldest is 23, and he’s doing amazing in life… but, occasionally, he will say how hard core his dad was & how he really never got cuddled or babied. It kills me that my being forced out of his life for so long, may hurt him forever… what can I do to start the healing?😊

Appreciate you doing this. My 20 year old daughter hasn’t spoken to me in 3+ years. She lives in Korea now. I have tried to approach her through email by sharing a youtube video of a song we used to listen to. After two months she replied that I shouldn’t contact her anymore. Brick wall.

Hey Andrew I have just found your video while I'm in a particular gloomy and hopeless time, and I found it very well explained and very useful. It brings me some hope back. I have had no contact with my daughter in two and a half years, she will be thirteen in a month. I've had a restraining order but finally the judge said I'm innocent, so in theory I can see my daughter, but without any visitation measures I don't find the way to do that. What stresses me most is the first contact we will have, because there is no doubt that the judge will allow us to have a space to meet. I don't know how she will act, I don't know what I'll be able to tell her. Do you have any advice for such cases? Thanks a million for your kindness and best regards from Spain from a French dad...

Hey there, it happened to me too. Silver bullet divorce, and straight away a restraining order. Here in Spain, it took two years to have a trial and be proven innocent. But I still don't have any custody or visitation measures... So two and a half years of no contact so far. It's horrible, and I don't have the feeling that I'm dealing better with it.

Also, if you are a grandparent encouraging your child's alienating actions, you are the source of the issue and the narcissism which is in sync with smearing a parent to his/her children is likely to be an issue that that was instigated by you.

Thanks for all of the good advice. What about when having to interact with a person who has been alienated from a parent who only happens to be from the same gender as me? When watching what Kim Cheatle is going through right now concerning the assasination attempt against Mr. Trump looks way more problematic to me than what I have ever gone through coming from children involved in any divorce. What I have a hard time with most is when someone has already become convinced that a situation is my fault after more than one other set of persons have made the errors which caused the situation that took place that day when that someone asking the questions are only a stranger to me. I can always tell that is what is happening at the time when I have to keep on repeating myself over and over again after already answering the first question about the same in a way which preserves my right to boundaries. For example when one or more persons from a delivery service company is demanding to know if I live alone or not instead of bothering to get proof of identity at the door after they were not told that anyone else in the building named should be taking the delivery in my place when not available.

Some people fear the same thing will happen to them while their relatives are not coping with grief well when someone in the future they left in a marriage dies.
