To stop people from choosing Pele in goal after guessing a player, a rule could be made that states that the replacement player may not be more expensive than the guessed player. That makes it more of a rule than just 'the bro code', even if most people wouldn't abuse this. This would also allow some expensive replacements, but in a much more controlled way.
