FCA GSE Small FireFly Engine Explained

The FCA Global Small Engine (or GSE, marketed as FireFly) is a new family of engines produced by Fiat Chrysler Automobiles or (FCA) starting in 2016, gradually replacing the FIRE (including MultiAir versions) and SGE (TwinAir) units.
It is a modular design (thus, inline-3 and inline-4 guises share the same unitary displacement and components such as pistons and connecting rods, so are able to be produced on the same production line), with aluminum cylinder heads and blocks.
It was introduced in 2016 in simple naturally aspirated, 2-valve per cylinder with VVT, indirect injected, flex-fuel 1.0 inline-3 and 1.3 inline-4 versions for the South American market under the hood of the 2017 Brazilian Fiat Uno.
Next, it was introduced in 2018 to European and North American markets, in turbocharged, 4-valve per cylinder, direct-injected and MultiAir III versions, under the hood of the 2019 Jeep Renegade and Fiat 500X facelifts.
Next, it was introduced in 2020 to European and North American markets, in MHEV, 4-valve per cylinder and direct-injected versions, under the hood of the 2020 Fiat 500 and Fiat Panda .

Really glad that small engines are being optimized for consumers. (probably always been the case) It's just nice to see we haven't stagnated on making fossil fuel engines more fuel efficient etc.

Why would you have an engine 3x the size when you can have just as much fun driving a 1.3 Turbo inline 4 cylinder. I own a Jeep Renegade 1.3 T is a blast. Great little engine!

This engine certainly does not come out of the Chrysler drawing board but rather from Fiat . American need an Hellcat version of this .But wait ...it can still be used as a compressor to place over the intake of an hellcat engine .

Is this cylinder block all aluminum, or does it have metal liners?

Metal liners, forged crank shaft, and forged connecting rods from what I've gathered

hey...... but what about burning the oil in brand new cars having that engine.....my car is a fiat tipo 1400 cc 2020 model with manual gear.....it realy consumes oil ...may be 300 ml every 1000 km. can any one explain why???????

500X, Tipo, Renegade, Compass, just to name the most important ones. A tuned-down SOHC variant without turbo, MultAir and with indirect injection also appears in 500s and Pandas.
