Thank you very much ! I have just passed my language exam. My partner talked a lot and he did not really give the change to interact together ... Now I'm a bit worried ... Because I could have stopped him a bit more but in this case, maybe the examiner would have thought that I can not let him talk x ( When in doubt, I cut him short only twice... Just to show to the examiner that i can stop him and move in an other subject =|

Excuse me, i have wondered about how can we take turns if the partner don't stop speaking, how to say "let's move on the next idea" while they are speaking
@Oxfordonlineenglish18 жыл бұрын
Yes, you can and should interrupt your partner if they won't stop speaking. Do it politely but firmly. You could say something like, "Excuse me, could I say something here?" Or: "That's interesting, but I have a different point of view..."

@Oxfordonlineenglish18 жыл бұрын
Thanks for the comment, Trang! It's a good question. I'd say you should answer your partner's question very briefly, and then refocus on the topic. Refocus by saying something like, "Let's get back to our task. What do you think about...?"

Dear Mia, I am training my beginner students with examples like this:Examiner: What do you like about living in (Lima)? Candidate: "Well, about my city, I like going to the beaches, I love the people, I like visiting interesting places like the museums or cathedrals..." Do you think that if they include an infinitive("I like to go to the beach.." f.ex.) that does not sound natural? Because I have read that for British natural speakers, it is common to use gerunds...Thanks for your appreciation:) Greetings from Peru!:)
@Oxfordonlineenglish14 жыл бұрын
Thanks for watching and asking your question, Giselle! Both 'I like to + infinitive' and 'I like + gerund' are acceptable, and widely used by native speakers equally.

@Oxfordonlineenglish14 жыл бұрын
Hi Gabriela, the exam will be your opportunity to communicate in the best way possible. If there is something you don't understand, don't panic. Use it as an opportunity to show your communication skills to get clarification with what you don't understand.
