Truck Revolution: Developing the High-Tech Mammoths of Tomorrow | FD Engineering
Watch 'Loaded: Delivering Extreme Cargo (Trucker Series)' here: • Loaded: Delivering Ext...
500 horsepower and a weight over 40 tons - to control and steer the mass of an colossal truck is not an easy task!
Nowadays, new high-tech trucks roam the highways boasting precise drivability, energy efficiency and all-round safety. Our documentary addresses the safety issues of truck driving and shows the development and construction of a new truck. We will journey through exciting glimpses inside the Swedish design-lab, the first home of the trucks and test their safety with spectacular crash tests.
Imagine driving along the smooth slope of the highway. Car in cruise control with the landscape just flashing by as you make your way to your destination. Then out of nowhere comes a massive, slow truck. In this moment, everything changes! Research has showed that for every dead truck driver there are nine fatally injured passengers. Why is this so?
The intimidating size and the restrictive speed of trucks have been the star of many drivers’ nightmare. But these, when coupled with the propensity for human error, are worse than the monster in any closet. To our relief, high-tech trucks are now in transit with filed technology and more than 500 HP. But it’s not just about speed; it is all about driving with the highest precision and energy efficiency! Truck manufacturers are now focusing on the safety features of trucks by creating smarter vehicles that are able to reduce human error. Nowadays new high-tech trucks roam the highways: highly precise drivability, energy efficient and getting safer every day - all over the world technicians and scientist work to make that happen.
Our documentary addresses the safety issues of truck driving and shows the development and construction of a new truck with lots of innovations, including exciting glimpses inside the Swedish design-lab and spectacular crash tests that show how safe modern trucks really are!

39:15 correction: Queensland is an Australian state, South Australia is a separate Australian state. Perhaps the narrator should have said “Queensland AND South Australia”. Also, at 39:17 that’s a Victorian (yet another Australian state) plate on the trailer! I’m feeling left out living in New South Wales… but loving this documentary.

Once the dynamic steering system has issues, such as the wrong camber angle, the steering becomes wobbly, it pulls trucks left or right randomly by itself.

Volvo and others have to develop electric drive trucks with regenerative braking. Yet a small battery and a diesel generator that fires up when battery power is below 20% or at highway speeds. This will give the best of both worlds, until newer battery technology has been developed. This will allow them to compete with Tesla. And provide long distance trucking with electric advantages today.

Is Volvo going to Electric / Battery trucks Or Hydrogen Fuel Cell Or Hydrogen Internal Combustion Engines ? In Arizona South East of Phoenix Arizona For the last few months , Nikola Trucks has been building and delivering , Hydrogen Fuel Cell powered Class 8 Heavy Duty Trucks ( the truck that pulls Trailers in Semis , 18 wheelers ) and Cummins Diesel , has Built a Hydrogen powered version of what was Used to be their Diesel Engine , in 2017 The American EPA will crack down on Pollution standards for Diesel Trucks, and make it hard to Build a Diesel engine that will comply with those Regulations
