1st Rig was MOVING in 1 minute 17 Seconds I'd say that's pretty good for a response time ... And considering it's an AFA Alarm even better .. ALSO considering the job they do SAFELY everyday I wouldn't say a darn thing ... Back in the 60,s & 70's a LOT of members were injured on the job ... I think the job today is a lot safer because we slow down and do the job PROPERLY ... Have a safe day guys ...

you ever drive in NYC traffic? They could rush to the trucks and try and rush out the doors but there's millions of people and vehicles they have to watch out for etc. You can criticize their responses but they always seem to get the job done. (not trying to be a dick I understand your post, just sayin)

Couldn't have said it better myself ... If they lived in the trucks they may be able to get out the door in a minute or less, and I have seen those kinds of responses, but usually a minute and a half is about normal ... and YES they certainly DO get the job done .. Hence the reason I don't always get smoke & fire on the 10-75's ... :)

Something I've wondered...if you're a Battalion or Division Chief's driver, how do you get that job and what do you do once you're arrived on the scene of a fire?
@FDNY8231

Normally a senior man, and on arrival they will be communicating with dispatch and starting command post. If not 1st due then he will accompany the chief and assist in whatever may be required of him.

Right you are. It was not always that way. Back in the 60's and 70's it was great sport for the 2nd due engine to try "beating in" the 1st due engine to a box. Bragging and put-down rights attached...especially if 2nd due got first water on 1st due's fire! No one seems to give s--t any more.

All our firefighters should be empowered by law to enforce it too. That means police powers and fully armed! They should be able to take over a scene in their field of expertise without cops arresting their field command for blocking a road during an extraction in an traffic accident. I saw that on a KZbin video and was enraged by it! I love my police too, but back off where you're not qualified!

Why does FDNY always take their time to respond?
@FDNY8231
@FDNY8231 7 жыл бұрын
well let's evaluate ... The call was an automatic fire alarm where only the first due units will respond in emergency mode (with siren) I.E. it a bullcrap call which is seen THOUSANDS of times per year in the city, and about 20 times a day in this house alone. More importantly the first rig moves out the door in a little over 60 seconds ... No one seems in a hurry due to the type call .... However a 60 second response time I would be happy with in my department. I have seen these boys turn out WAY faster on more serious reported calls, but they did good ...

It may SEEM like they're slow, but they are not .. We have a saying that Haste Makes Waste, and is Unsafe. The FDNY are PROS at what they do, and the countless lives that have been saved prove that. First rig moved on one minute 15 sec .... In my opinion not too bad for an automatic alarm ...
