Instead of repeatedly asking for passport's and then having to search for it, make it a law if you cannot produce your passport upon request, or at least a photocopy so they can verify your status, make it automatic deportation within a week and you go to a holding facility so you cannot run. I guarantee all legal Visa holders will make sure they know exactly where their passport's are( in a safe place) and would have several photocopies as backup's at their house, one at work, one with a friend elative etc.

not entirely sure how the UK law is written, but in pretty much all of Europe and many countries elsewhere, if you are legally in the country and not a citizen, you're required to carry the documentation that prove your right to stay at all times, no matter if that is visa, asylum, residency, or whatever. If you cannot present it when requested, you'll be spending some time in a cell

There is solution for those who fail to report once a month - instead of them reporting or not reporting, border force should make regular check ups on them. I know it is impossible to do it daily or few days a week, but at least twice a week would make many of them think twice about running away as the chance of finding out fast will be alot bigger for border force. The reporting procedure is more in their favor then in favor of border force as they can be anywhere and do god knows what between the dates of reporting.

What the police should do is to run scam lorries to bait the clandestines. the truck driver and owner are responsible for everything loaded onto the truck, no matter if it's goods or people. The driver is required to ensure his cargo is secure and check it every time he intends to move the truck after it's been parked, thus it's his own fault if he ends up with people aboard because he didn't check the load properly. There are cases where drivers check their truck, notice the illegals, and notify the authorities, they just never show that on this show. Whenever they say "they got a tip", it's usually from the drivers that notice something's off.

When foreigners enter to England, at the border there should be made a record where they came from, finger print or something.. and agreement with the arriving country that this person can be returned back if illegal.
