Isn't the % wt Sn for the eutectic point 61.9 ? (Note that the graph has that value marked in that point)

Why is xL -x used to calculate W alpha?

That seems backwards. Why isn't the longer line close to alpha on the left of the graph the bigger percentage?

The green line? The percentage increase from left to right. The green line does have a bigger percentage than the pink one. Green (25%) and Pink (14%).

@@directhubfeexam the green line is 64 percent and red was 36 percent. I would think the red line is the alpha but it's not it is the liquid.

@@dand7056 ahh I see the confusion. Yes that definitely confused me too. The way I would do this is by using the FE Handbook page on 105.

Here is a visualization that helped me. It involves a "lever", I guess this is where the lever rule came from. www.directhub.net/fe-exam-reddit-and-youtube-questions-answered/#Phase_Diagrams_-_Tie_Line Taking the moment about the center (fulcrum) we will get W_L x R = W_s x S. If you examine the image, the weight that the liquid must overcome to stay at equilibrium will equal to the R/R+S. Hope that helps.

Visually it makes sense for alpha to be larger than L but I believe this is a inverse lever rule meaning that if you are interested in the fraction of phase on the left, you have to take ratio of the right-hand segment to the entire length of line and vice versa.
