In my playthrough. Matthew became a slightly better Assassin than Jaffar in terms if stats, it was... surprising. If I had the chance of having them clash I would of had them do so.

I've been thinking about this support earlier. They were one of my favourite parts of FE7. I like how the last thing Leila said was Matthew, then in this support when Matthew thought he was going to die (and also if he does actually die) he says "Leila". Really enjoyed their conversations in the Forging Bonds event of Heroes.

Beruka did not kill Oboro's Parents, but her master did and her master got killed by Beruka, Oboro wanted to Avenge her parents and Thinks the only way to avenge them is Killing Beruka now... but refuses because what is the point?, It's just bloody murder, Assasins job is to kill, not of their attentions, but be the force. The Real Murderers are those that Hire the assasins, those that pull the trigger, not the gun itself. Yes, assasins are violent, but they will always saldy exist

Blake Blast don't forget awakening when sayri fights yenfai, she asks why he says nothing yet watched his parents and village get burned and did nothing, why didn't he fight the bad guys why did he turn against his sister and ylisse, then after he dies sayri says why did he hold back. In the end of the chapter we find out he's been keeping his mouth shut and obeying orders just to protect his sister he even kept quiet at death to keep her safe, it may be a villain but it was a good support and very sad to see the brother go through so much even seeing his village burn to keep his sister safe then dying not even telling her that he did all this for her he died to keep her safe

Nothing dark about a little girl being held prisoner in a dark dungeon infested with rats, and the only comfort allowed is the screams of her siblings being tortured to death or insanity. Yeah the new games certainly aren't as fucked up as the old ones.

well we can assume that Jaffar killed a lot more and has even destroyed some families before he joins your army Jaffar was raised by Nergal so before Nergal created the three morphs Ephidel, Sonia and Limstella, he didn't even have the help of the Black Fang back then because Sonia is the one he sent to secretly manipulate the Black Fang so before control of the Black Fang through Sonia, Nergal probably had Jaffar do alot of killing in order to get the required quintessence just to create Sonia. and then after that Sonia seduced Brendan (ok but really, i'm still in disbelief... leader of the biggest assassin company in all of Elibe, and he falls to some gorgeous tits? what an embarrassing example...) and then the Black Fang did most of the work for them the number of innocents Jaffar has killed probably even rivals the total number of kills the entire Black Fang has ever made

For Matthew, I think it strengthens his will to survive. Like "I can't die here, not when that bastards right there! I will avenge Leila!" For Jaffar, I have no better term than "Atonement brain". Jaffar won't allow himself to die just yet. He still has to protect Nino and atone for his crimes. Matthews is a living reminder of how many lives he messed up under Nergal and so he's motivated to keep living. (Maybe I'm wrong but IDC, I think it makes sense.)

No, Jaffar is really bad because he joins extremely late. His stats are pretty good, but his class is trash, and Matthew has tons of utility before Jaffar even first appears

If you intented to use Thief/Assassin as combat units then of course Matthew is a better choice. Wind affinity makes up what assassins generally lack: attack. It is just assassin is crap and people only deploy one to kill off generic enemies as it takes heavy RNG for assassin to consistently kill bosses with silencer. In this scenario it is better off just use Jaffar as he requires no investments and leave the boss fights to contenders like Eliwood, Hector, Raven, Pent.

I always let Jaffar die. Since i cant really attack him, it is my way of getting revenge for Leila. I never recruit him. It pisses me off a little when he escapes anyway but there is nothing i can do about it

Nor will she ever know what happened to her father figure who led the Black Fang. Also I don't think in any way Jaffar is truly capable of dying as his and Nino's kids are in the next game. He kinda gets a pass because his kids are required.
