Absolutely love what they went for with the Death Knight persona. It isn't just a mask or a facade. It's a legit split personality that Jertiza struggles with. It reminds me of Diavolo and Doppio. One is in the back of the mind, who can only watch the other do as they please.

Actually Jeritza’s is more like OSDD-1a/b he doesn’t experience the amnesia that goes with DID (which as a person with DID, I experience the amnesia) He’s aware of what the Death Knight is doing. He’s just not powerful enough to truly stop him. He does his best to do so though.

Hugster Jim TWSitD are the ones who gave crests to humans. After the final battle against Nemesis, Rhea was put into a tough situation. Kill those that stole the blood of her fallen siblings? Or allow them to live? If she did let them live, how would that work? There was a lot of weight to her decision allowing the people who were partially responsible for her family’s massacre to live. What she thought was the best way was to paint the humans with crests like heroes, so that the humans wouldn’t try to kill the last remaining Children of the Goddess like they had before. This is wrong for her to manipulate history, but what would the better alternative be? It’s impossible to empathize with someone who’s family was massacred right in front of them. The best way I can paint it is if your brother or sister was killed, and the killer wore something of theirs as a trophy, would you have it in you to let them live? And on top of that, to prevent any of your few remaining siblings from ever dying like that one did, would you be able to portray the murderer as a hero for the sake of your family? It’s an impossible question. Most people would just kill the person who did that, or make them suffer at the very least. A lot of people don’t take that into account when judging Rhea for the crest system. Not saying she’s innocent, far from it, but there’s a lot of personal context behind the decision. Seteth himself (another child of the goddess) disagrees with the crest system, he’s seen the negativity it brings, and thinks it should be modified or removed. But Rhea is the one in power, so he can’t. As to why she doesn’t remove it, that’s not really told to us. Edelgard thinks it’s a power move, but she also still thinks Nemesis was a hero and Rhea created the crests of the 10 Elites, so her information isn’t always reliable. It very well could be a power move, but it seems more like she’s protecting the reputation of the church i.e. herself.

I find it funny how there's resemblances..in regards to characters who have relationships to others but can be fought on opposing sides or originate from the same nation. Jeritza/Emile and Mercedes almost look like a shout-out to Tellius Series Elincia and Petram particularly in Path of Radiance, the former two having being younger and older half-siblings and the latter two being daughter and uncle. Jeritza as the Death Knight and Petram as the enigmatic Knight in Black: Both are mounted units who are enemies unless you sided with the Empire (after a patch) in the case of the former, or after being recruited (happens automatically) in the sequel during the final chapter. Both specialize in lances and rarely speak when talking to the main Lord in combat, if they do speak to the main Lord, it usually involves one of them killing the other. Both are dressed in prominently black armor and helmet, and are never seen without their helmet as enemies. The former's helmet is removed in AM if a certain prologue is completed on time and the latter's helmet is removed when he's cured from his mental madness. Both are usually stationary, though the Death Knight will move in Maddening or after being attacked/attacking in any difficulty. Both bond incredibly well with their other family member (Jeritza/Mercedes and Petram/Elincia) once they're fighting on the same side and are willing to put aside their past to hep the other no matter what. Both Jertiza and Petram can use the family relic/weapon that Mercedes and Elincia can also use by virtue sharing the same crest (Jeritza/Mercedes) or being of the same royal family (Petram/Elincia). The dynamic of Jeritza as the Death Knight and Zelgius aka the Black Knight to Byleth and Ike also stands out: Both the Death Knight and the Black Knight at max stats will always be defeat Byleth and Ike if they are at max stats thanks to superior max stats and skills/abilites. Both of the Death Knight and Black Knight are in dominate black armor and again, aren't seen without their helmet on if they truly enemies. In Crimson Flower, he doesn't have his helmet on anymore as he's your trusted ally (according to Edelgard) and Zelgius removes his helmet as the Black Knight in the Endgame but both he and Ike are merely worthy opponents than mortal enemies. Both use Lances and Swords, though Jeritza favors the former and Zelgius favors the latter. Both after they initially meet as enemies, see the respective main Lord as worthy opponents and want to see their true strength, going as far as to prevent or hope that said Lord doesn't die an unworthy death before the fated final battle but instead grow stronger. Both are no-nonsense rivals to Byleth and Ike, as they don't mess around and get straight to battle when they're not on the same side. Prior to the destined 'final' battle (Path of Radiance) or Post-Time Skip (Three Houses), neither of the main Lords are going to be able to survive well on harder difficulties against them. This becomes true if you aren't doing side battles in Three Houses and are doing Hard/Maddening. Both end up assisting the Byleth and Ike in unusual ways. As an enemy, the Death Knight after losing control over Fort Merceus does his best to get Byleth who's his worthy opponent and the United Army (VW)/Resistance Army (SS) to flee the fort before the Javelines of Light detonate it. This most likely agitated TWSITD as they wanted Byleth and their army dead. Zelgius while not as the Black Knight leads a huge unrivaled Begnion Army in assisting Ike and the Crimean Army in retaking Crimean territory that Daein took over. In the sequel, even though Begnion broke off peace treaties with Crimea (due to corrupt senators), Zelgius refuses to partake in the battles against the latter out of honor and respect and instead retreats with his army even if it was against orders, effectively risking his life for a greater cause. He's spared from death by virtue of his 'blessed' armor and by Emperor Sanaki's arrival as she sees the betrayal of treaties as treachery.
