Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas is Trippy! - Talking About Tapes

Since Tony appeared in the Vegas Stakes episode of AVGN as character inspire by Dr. gonzo, him and Newt got together and Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas. In this Podcast / Movie Review they will talk about all the things that make this movie trippy. Like the insane visuals, the 4th wall breaking storytelling, and the over the top performances.
Raoul Duke (Johnny Depp) and his attorney Dr. Gonzo (Benicio Del Toro) drive a red convertible across the Mojave desert to Las Vegas with a suitcase full of drugs to cover a motorcycle race. As their consumption of drugs increases at an alarming rate, the stoned duo trash their hotel room and fear legal repercussions. Duke begins to drive back to L.A., but after an odd run-in with a cop (Gary Busey), he returns to Sin City and continues his wild drug binge.

This is my favorite comedy film of all time, it's psychological/psychedelic, hilarious, dark, somber, poignant, fantastically directed/acted, and incredibly profound - not to mention that is all elevated by the fact that it's based on the writings of Hunter S Thompson, one of the most incredibly interesting people.

yeah I want to like him, but I'm not such a fan of what he's in. It feels like he gets type cast a lot as a cop or a detective and I just tire of crime drama that follows an "enforcers" perspective. He is great in Oz or Harold and Kumar; law and order is just not my bag

Watched this movie religiously throughout High School & after in my 20’s. Can easily follow the “plot” of this movie from the beginning narration to the ending scenes. Definitely a movie you need to watch dozens of times to fully understand. Track down the Criterion Edition for the best version of the movie.

Yeah, I saw this in the theatre VERY high with friends, it was going to be a trip as we expected. But there was one part that changed the whole movie that you should of talked about. I was gonzo watching it and laughing till the scene of the freak out in the restaurant with the waitress by HST lawyer, I was absolutely horrified, it then became a horror show being high! Great review!

Great review! Loved all the various sidebars, which kind of fit with the theme of the film. There's also a pretty poignant undertone to both the film and the book (which I highly recommend) beneath the madness about the end of the 60s and the hippie revolution that never quite made it before "the tide rolled back". Also, all the Vietnam footage is because the story takes place in 1971. Oh, and of interesting note, Thompson was actually in the Air Force for a couple years back in the 50s. Needless to say, he wasn't a good "fit" (lol).
