When Thompson is on the pay phone outside baker you can see the Dead Kennedys logo sprayed on the glass of the booth.

Hunter S. Thompson is akin to Christopher Columbus in the sense that he sailed the often choppy seas of the burgeoning American drug culture. What Thompson often found is that he would be up shit creek without proper wiping material.

I love this movie! I grew up with it, it’s based on my favorite book, it got the dead kennedies on the soundtrack, terry gillam in the directors chair, Alex cox in the producer role (and original directors chair) and Benicio del toro. All the best things.

Brilliant movie. Period. Btw, this song is used (in a covered version by someone else) in the Big Lebowski aswell. So I guess watching one youtube video can remind you of the 2 best movies ever made. Thankyou basti, for putting a smile on my face today. :)

i first read the book in 1980 along with hells angels and the great white shark hunt, i dont think a film could ever do justice to the book, it was a completly different era as well, you just couldnt get with most of what did in his life now, cant believe he lived so long as he did a very talented dude!

@deathbot290 I think it is a better representation of the book than most movies, but in the book there is an over riding theme that if you go completely over the top and don't hold back at all, you will get away with anything. that theme is not so apparent in the movie, and i think that is a shame because i have lived my life by that ethos ever since i read the book about 15 years ago and tbh i still haven't got caught, (but don't tell anyone)

There was madness in any direction, at any hour. If not across the Bay, then up the Golden Gate or down 101 to Los Altos or La Honda. . . . You could strike sparks anywhere. There was a fantastic universal sense that whatever we were doing was right, that we were winning. . . .

Is this song playing at the end, over the tributes, or are there two endings? Cos when I first saw the film, I think it ended with this song instead of Jumping Jack Flash. Is this possible or have drugs alterated my memory and twisted the truth?

Dang! I need to get the book again. (A flooded basement destroyed my last copy.) In the book, in the section supposedly transcribed directly from tape, you find out that the American Dream burned down a few years earlier..., you know, about the time Robert Kennedy died. (I still haven't forgiven Hunter S. Thompson for committing suicide before I figured that one out!)

One of the most over looked actors (Johnny Depp as Hunter Thompson) writen from a story created by Hunter S. Thompson himself. ("FEAR AND LOATHING ON THE CAMPAIGN TRAIL OF 72" was a much better book!
