In real life actual explorers would go into much tighter spaces inside massive caves. Many of them would go so far they would get wedged in between rocks and die or they wouldn't have the energy to make the long trip back out and also die. I always found that to be a horrifying concept so it's pretty cool to see a game like this. I hope the final product ends up being good.

Yeah, I don't have many fears, but underground caves is definitely one. After seeing The Descent, the thought of being in an underground cave system and running out of light really freaks me out!

I don't see enough horror media that takes place outside of modern or close to modern times. It's good to see a game exploring this underutilized area of the genre.
@AntipaladinPedigri11 ай бұрын
Because the idea of a horror protagonist is to be as close to an everyday Joe as possible so the viewer can project themselves onto them. As much as you wanted to believe it, there is always that voice that it can't happen to you, because you aren't a medieval knight (though I guess getting stuck in tunnels sucks tho). I agree tho that it is nice to see a change, and started to write fantasy horror for myself because there isn't much of it.

One of the weirdest and creepiest games so far. Not so much horrors play on gamer's feeling of unease - Being small like in Little Nightmares or Among the Sleep, or being hapless creature like in almost semi-horror game Rainworld. -Fear Undeground remind me old obscure PS2 game - Hungry Ghosts or something like that - same medival setting and total helplessness. But in this game feeling tripled and increased by tight spelunking-like horror vibe. Would like to see more sections - not just "all fours crawling", maybe some uneasy combat or hiding. But so far game struck right in my own feeling of uneasy fears and scaredy.

The artstyle and the (implied) death scenes from the traps remind me of House of Velez. I wouldn't be surprised if some of the devs from Dark Room Games were involved in this project. In any case I expect the finished game to be very gory. And I mean EXTREMELY gory, the kind you need to see on bitchute to get a full playthrough because it gets age restricted to hell and back on yt.

cool concept but I think the protag talks too much instead of letting the environment talk for itself. Kind of a common issue with games nowadays.
@The-Man-On-The-Mountain11 ай бұрын
Good observation. I thought I was alone in this issue. I can't stand when the character talks and talks, telling everything that is obviously happening, or when there is too much dialogue, especially when the protagonist (us) is constantly chatting with the typical radio sidekick who seems to know where we are all the time and sees everything, somehow.

For the risks and style this game took, it also felt completely immersion breaking at points. The dialog felt silly, especially talking about lab rats. I don't have to be an archeologist to know lab rats weren't a thing in his time. Also, the creative angle and presentation made a lot of the set pieces make zero sense. It should be made more clear that he's in a confined single line tunnel and not this wide, low ceiling cave. It's great for the presentation of how things were shown, but if it looks like he can clearly go over there as well, it makes his linear crawling odd at points. This can be fixed by making the start off enclosed kinda fade out. Start with the tunnel completely enclosed and hardly able to see the character and then fade it out to say, "all of this is just on the other side of the wall." Also, are the cutscenes needed every time you change a direction? I understand you don't want to clip the camera through the environment. I would take a camera pan over those any day. Just add a super vignette that focuses on the character to hide the stuff while keeping the transitions smooth and gameplay constant.

The idea for this game is genius but it all feels kind of janky. Why did we need that tiny cut scene at 2:29 for example. Or any other changes of directional axis for that matter. And after that, there's no reason why the protagonist can't stand up. The dialogue as well feels a little cheesy at times too. "What's that stench of death" he says as he's passing a rotted head. At times as well it feels as though the voice actor is simply narrative from a 3rd person perspective. If I were stuck in a drowning tunnel, I'd be making much more hysterical noise.
