Those leaf springs are really good for making chisel teeth out of like for your drag. My dad and I use leaf springs the rebuild the teeth on our box blade every few years, and we have a lot of rocks it's amazing how long they stay sharp.

speaking of re-purposing old craftsman mowers, i am looking at using one i stripped for parts to use as a foundation for a trailer idea i have. lots of places to mount an axle, and the frame seems pretty sturdy....plus it already comes with a place to mount a hitch...(y)

Well worth the slight loss in ground clearance. Excellent fabrication and design. Bout time you got some serious meats on the back-exactly what the diesel Sears needs. Got similar tread tires on my Huskee (28x10x12)- they work great. Very hard to get a puncture with 6 ply tires.

You should build some implements to make use of the category 0 3pt hitch and diesel engine. If that drag you built or are building wears out, you should make a small 3pt chisel plow using those leaf springs.

@aserta10 жыл бұрын
It's a good idea and very resourceful parts re-use. But. You need to weld a strip of steel above that tube you cut out. You removed that section which might later on cause stress in the frame (because the frame is now loose to bend that way). It's better to be safe than sorry. Weld a bar at the top or over the two "eyelets" IMO, that would cause no interference to the skid plate's functionality.
@Fearlessfront10 жыл бұрын
Yeah, I actually addressed that in the video, but edited that part out. I plan on making a an under body brace that spans between the 4 bolts that hold the foot rests on to the frame. Plus the transmission itself also bolts the two halfs of the frame together, not that I really think it will matter, the Frame is built out of channeled 1/4 steel plate.... It doesn't flex.
@Fearlessfront10 жыл бұрын
aserta I just checked the website, That steel part is listed as a "hanger". (it's for the mower deck & loader) So I really don't think it offers any real support. But still, I agree with you, and will probably still put in the brace
@aserta10 жыл бұрын
Fearlessfront When in doubt... Besides websites are never something to go by. Only the engineer who made these knows better. There's also a bonus to adding that brace and it's that in the eventually that you really bash this thing in a rock and it so happens that it catches the pin instead of the plate, the brace will hold everything together. Well, that's my thinking, but, i'm not there so it revolves only around my previous experiences which may or may not match your current dilemma. When i modify something i try as best as i can to restore the status quo. Cheers and can't wait for the romp videos this year!

Looks good fearless. I'll have to come up with something similar on my sears build. I left that cross bar(I think it was the old rear mower deck mounting bar wasn't it?) on my sears with plans on incorporating a skid plate for the trans in with it somehow. Plus That bar acts like a pretty good frame support in its stock location. Give ya some extra strength. As usual though, brilliant build man. Let me know how the tires do. I will have to run the swamp lites I bought for a while since they are already mounted up, and if they end up not performing up to par, I think vampires or Kenda executioners will be my next purchase.

Hey fearless, I'm building a off road mower and my tires on the rim are a 23x9.50x12. I was wondering if I could put a set of 25x8x12 I know I will have to put a fender lift on. But will the tires work. What was your rim size? Was it a 8x12 and you went to a bigger tire 9.50x12 or was it a 9.50x12 and you put a 8x12 on it. Love your vids by the way! I made my brother subscribe too. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks
@Fearlessfront10 жыл бұрын
Thanks man! I used the original wheels that came on the tractor, and I also had 23" tires on mine when I bought it. The 25"s barely clear the fenders without modification. At least on my rig they do. you should be fine to mount a 25 to it.
