We have a cat, and we got a laser for play. Our cat started to aggressively attack our kids, and my husband figured it out that the laser was making our cat paranoid. We threw it away, and never saw the aggressive behavior again. Those lasers are not mentally healthy for cats or dogs. This poor dog was probably scared and paranoid.

I can only imagine its the animal equivalent of a hallucination for us, something that looks so real and distracting but doesnt physically exist. They get keyed up from the chase and never receive the dopamine from successfully catching it. Sad really :(

I was about to buy a laser pointer for my new cat, and thought that my dog could enjoy playing with it too. You, Ren (in this thread here), and Victoria have talked me out of it, sounds like a very bad idea for both of them.

@@thomaslevy7249 Im not 100% sure, but I think laser pointers CAN be used safely if they receive a unique toy or reward for "catching" the light (you would turn it off when they make contact). But if youre unsure I would say dont risk it. Not an animal behaviourist by ANY means, I just really care about animals and Id like to say I know a bit about the basics 😅

When I first met my girlfriend's family, they used a laser to entertain their two one-year-old pitbulls. When I first saw it happening, I immediately informed her about how detrimental it is to them, and her family stopped using it. Now, about 7 months later, they still haven't been using the laser and the pups are finally a little less uptight/expectant when you stand right where they know the pointer sits

This is terrible. My dog has become obsessed with the reflection from the garden door. We’ve made the mistake of sometimes using it for play thinking he’d get bored with it or grow out of it. I had no idea before today how harmful it can be. He sat watching the wall for half an hour outside yesterday while I did chores. Clouds were moving across the sky so the sun came and went. Very worried.he’s 9 months old

@@PeaceKitty hey, thanks! He’s 18 months now, an all spring and summer we kept the glass on the door covered with a sheet to block the reflection. He still will look for the light some, and occasionally we accidentally forget it’s sunny and he sees it again. But he snaps out of it relatively quickly, so it’s not bad now. He can’t be in the garden at night cause the car lights are also making him chase. But anywhere else, light isn’t an issue. Odd, but thankful for that.

funky my dog loves playing with the lazer she never fixates on the reflections and we give her a treat when she catches the dot and we also play with her alot via other means by playing hide n find as well as fetch! hide n find is similar to the cup game but you tell the dog to sit and stay and you go and hide treats around the house hidden but accessible to the dog such as behind door frames or beside furniture then after we have hidden the treats we say "go find" and watch/follow her as she dashes around finding treats by sniffing to find them around the house its so much fun! like an Easter egg hunt but for dogs!

we also rarely use the lazer pointer and instead play tug of war, hide n find as well as fetch the lazer pointer game we use to wear her out and only very rarely and we always give her a treat if she catches the dot and turn off the lazer so that she feels as if shes caught it and can feel proud snacking on a healthy bit of celery or carrot which she loves as treats

I have been watching these and all sorts of other training videos. I can't find any video that will help me with the dog my sister asked me to take. Aladdin is a 10-years-old Shorkie poo, blind in one eye. He wasn't potty trained and had severe separation anxiety as well as a serious bark issue. We've got him potty trained. He no longer barks non-stop ... in fact, he is a very quiet dog now. I didn't want him, but with training he has turned into a wonderful companion. However, there is one big problem: he has a history of running away. We were careful, but one winter day, I was walking him with my walker and his leash slipped out of my hand. I wasn't fast enough to get it back and he ran off. It was a cold day and I was terrified his leash would get caught. I frantcally drove around looking for him. Fortunately, someone found him a block away, called and cuddled him until I could get there. Since then I have been trying to teach him to "come" for his safety and so I can take him to a dog park. We can't get past sit. He gets too excited during training. Even if you train after a walk. He literally becomes hyper and barks. I have to turn away until he calms and then start over. The rare times we've actually made it past sit and stay to "come," he won't come. No treat will induce him to come, nothing. He will just sit and stare. Any videos of dogs with similar inability to learn? What am I doing wrong? Is it a small dog issue? I've never trained a small dog. Bigger dogs seem so much quicker on the uptake.

Victoria has a video on here about a dog that wouldn’t come and would run away when given full rein, would be worth finding and watching. From memory she used big movements, high pitched noises and ran away from the dog, which initiated chase in the dog which could then be used to train recall. Basically trying to make returning to you as fun as possible.

My mom's dog Drizzet likes to attack our other dog named Pearl and our cat Misty he drags the cat by her neck {not her collar} to the other room. and attacks Pearl by biting and jumping non stop. I'm getting scared of this behavior because we have this girl dog named miley that does not like other animals. We were surprised she let them live with us.im afraid she will get in a bad fight with him when he gets older and one of them gets injured. He also likes to drag pearls by her leash when we are trying to get out the door with her to walk her. Do you possibly have any tips to train him?

@@junkoslowed5074 A lot of the owners shown on this show are well meaning people who just didn't do enough research into proper dog training. This dog is NOT fine. Do they understand what a reflection is? The dog is looking at a patch of sunlight on the floor. That’s not really a reflection in the typical sense. It might be ‘reflected light’ but it’s not a reflection. I thought we were going to see a kind of narcissistic dog who stares in the mirror all day!
