Interesting how in the 1950's they seemed to have an understanding of childhood trauma and it's affects with behavior and development, but most people didn't want to study serial killers until the 1970's.

Sigmund Freud discovered that traumatic experiences in childhood could adversely affect later development all the way back in the 1910s. It's been well known for a quite a while, getting people to acknowledge this was a different story.

It has a lot to do with not speaking about the obvious, and having access and interest in being an intelligent parents. There was an annoying chapter in a contemporary historical book on ancient Rome, written by a roman. In one chapter he says, "Here is the roman crossbow. Since it is such common knowledge how it operates, I will not bore you with the details." We still to my knowledge have no precise knowledge of how an ancient roman handheld crossbow looked or functioned. My best friend I met in first grade had very calm and awesome parents. I would spend a lot of time with them. They were intelligent, guiding, stern, loving, commanding, and understanding. I came from a hollow home with none of these things. If I had the choice I would have spent all my time there, and my parents seemed happy that I tried. No amount of videos or guides would ever have changed my parents. They weren't interested. On the opposite side, my friend's parents did not seem to need these videos, because they knew what they were doing and had already been taught these things by their parents and friends. At some point, many chains of knowledge are broken, because things become so obvious that someone get's too busy or lazy. Information disappears constantly. Information must be upkept and treasured, especially when it comes to the very important but very obvious. I feel like at some point explaining why was lost, and then thec explanations were lost. I always made sure to explain everything to my child, and he would always listen. Children to my understanding are very interested in how things work, and only rarely you have to force a lesson. Even then, one should not only explain why, but with a guiding attitude also show the beneficial results of lessons learned. Having a single good family in a society can do immense good, because when children visit them, they will always remember the good things taught to them. Be that kind of a person and family, if at all possible.

Parents of children that struggle with fear/anxiety should do everything in their power to let those children know that they (the parents) are there to help them overcome those fears. Parents shouldn't force children to deal with fears if the child isn't ready, but instead parent should guide them with daily talks about those specific fears.
