Goa, an Indian state close to Mumbai was a Portuguese colony and part of Portugal from the early 16th century when merchants came to its shore and conquered the territory soon thereafter till 1961 when it became a part of India when Portugal was forced to relinquish Goa. Due to this, Goa has inherited the Portuguese culture to a certain extent and somehow indianized it as well. The largest city in Goa is Vasco Da Gama. Around 25% of Goans are Christians with names like Chris Fernandes or Maria D'Santos. My high school teacher was Nigel D'Souza. His brother was Virgil D'Souza who too was a teacher. Goa has Carnival every year. A lot of food is similar to Portuguese cuisine too. You'll find the architecture to have a Portuguese flair to it, the streets have Portuguese names,etc.

Try the seafood. If you land in Mumbai or Delhi, take an Uber instead or book your cab from the prepaid booth which will not rip you off. Bargain for prices and if you can read Karl Rock's guide to India. It's really helpful for foreigners. Anyways, enjoy your time in Goa and later if you'd like, visit Ladakh. Just check some motovlogs or normal vlogs in Ladakh. Its magical ✨
