Thanks very helpful ! My rocky has been grinding for 9 years and it was gummy and cruddy. Mounds of nasty coffee in there. New burrs and cleaning grinding better and retaining less grounds. My 2 cents use a 12mm deep socket to remove bottom burr and carrier( counter clockwise ) just use a pencil or screwdriver in the shoot to lock it in position. Makes taking off burr much easier and no band aids.

😂👍🏻- avoid the band aids if you can thanks Pete

It does get worse from not cleaning. I just tried to clean this beast for a friend. She said it was never cleaned and had been sitting for 5 years in the basement. The coffee powder and oils formed a tar-like varnish on everything inside. I finally got all the parts cleaned but the adjustment ring would not go back in because there was a ring of that tar near the bottom of the threads. I showed it to my friend and she appreciated my efforts but it ended up in the trash. The Rocky seems like a difficult machine to clean even if you can do it on a regular basis. I definitely would not recommend for a beginner.

Brian appreciate the feedback - and I hope its helpful to others, its sounds like you picked up on my idea, if anyone, ever, anticipates ever 😂 taking apart and cleaning their grinder, - they are already too late, 😂 it should have been done months ago 😂🤷🏻♂️ who knew things could get so - gummed up in there? best- Pete

Hey man! Great video. I cleaned my machine as you just did, but now the machine has stopped turning on. Any idea as to why that would happen?

Have you tried WDTing then leveling before tamping ?
@petesranciliosilvia3777 Жыл бұрын
I see people committed to the spinning leveling tools, and I can understand the intent (?) I think I just picked up such a negative response when the technique seemed to be super popular two or so years ago when all sense seemed lost other than using that tool to solve every problem, even if it meant dropping it onto uneven, lumpy, grounds at a level that was semi tamp, - if that makes sense? I see people now pushing a bit more WDTing, and then bringing it in, then tamping - yes, but it almost seems like that self leveling tamp that rests on the basket - could be a better chance to really ensure a level tamp - without oddly pressuring the grounds - another * I don't know moment for me in espresso - how about you ? is it a workflow you use ?

@Pete's Rancilio Silvia Yes I use WDT then leveling tool and then just a normal hand tamper,no leveling tamper or force tamper even though I do think those are better than your average hand tamper..I also started using a pre warmed puck screen instead of pre infusion and have gotten much better results and cleaner, more dry and uniformed extractions along with pucks..

Good info - thanks, I have used the paper filters from an aero press at top and bottom, and while thought the taste was different wasnt sure it was an improvement, but its another thing I can see trying to see if its a good fit for someone, I think there is something to the puck screen with assisting with dispersion and limiting disruption to improve flow through puck, - and pre heating it Im not sure Ive seen anyone do that - but it also makes some sense to improve temp stability - nice info thanks Pete

Great info thanks - I like the pre warmed puck screen to add some temp stability and limit disruption - nice move, and sounds like a detectable improvement -Pete

@Pete's Rancilio Silvia Thanks..I will fill my cup that I'm using with water and microwave it for about a minute then drop my puck screen in the warm cup and let it sit while I grind and do all my other puck prep,so it is good and warm but also already wet..It has made an overall great improvement
