Gin's teeth is broken. It seems not easy to remove since the part of the teeth is still tightly attached to the gums. Emergency surgery is not planned so far, but in the future, if symptoms of inflammation or festering are observed, he may undergo surgery. Currently vets and zookeepers are carefully observing the condition.

Good afternoon, All. I truly hope by now the tooth is dislodged and Gin is feeling better. I also sincerely hope everyone here is OK. What an emotional day! The truth is, the Tama chimps are like family to most of us. You can actually feel the love and caring daily in everyone's posts. You all are great! Please keep in mind.... Although 7-8 times stronger than humans, chimps are just as fragile. Therefore, Gin would be wailing and unable to keep still if he was in extreme pain. Also, chimps are much more resistive to infections than humans. In daily grooming sessions, chimps ingest each other's fecal matter, eye crust and "boogers" without getting a subsequent infections or illness. They are also constantly running around with open, bloody cuts on their feet and hands that do not become infected. Finally, it can not be overstated how risky anasthesia is to chimps. It is only used when absolutely no other options are available. I believe Gin will be just fine. He is showing us his trademark coolness and bravery, and this will have no bearing on his potential to be Alpha one day. Just like Decky's inability to mate had no bearing on him becoming an Alpha. I am just looking forward soon to again see Gin defying gravity, beating on Fubuki, and watching him run from Momoko screaming when she comes charging at him on another booty call! :)

Wow I didn’t think Gin’s tooth was hanging by a thread... to me he doesn’t look like he’s in pain more like he’s annoyed that he can’t shake the tooth free. Good thing he’s got Drs. Berry and Miru to constantly inspect and check him out. If this has been going on for 2 yrs, I would hope that if he was going to get an infection it would be when the tooth first started to break and get loose. I also understand why a lot of the people in Tama Zoo Chimps club are upset, let’s just give the keepers and vets at this zoo a little credit since they do take very well care of our beloved troop and I hope that Gin's tooth will fall of on its own but more than likely it'll knocked out by Fubuki and one of his many branches or anything else that he can get his hand on😂😂👀👀❤️❤️

I love reading comments, here is my look, Gin does not in any way look to be in pain ,If Gin was having pain there would be no way in heck he would allow others {Berry and Miru} to even come close to it.... I am thinking the staff and zoo keepers want it to fall out on its own, that is a canine tooth that is broken..... He has worked at it for 2 years now and looks like he has the last bit to tend too and it will be gone... Chimps and anesthesia are not a good thing .... The tooth looks to me like it is caught up on a little gum but Gin looks fine playing with it, I feel one of them will either help get it out and then there will be a fight over who gonna keep it .... lol It has been broken for 2 years now and have NEVER seen Gin have any problems with the roots they feed them or even eating nuts.... I want to be Gin's tooth fairy and just go pull on it too...One more thing you can tell ALL his other teeth look to be well taken care of so I am sure it's just a matter of time before it comes out

I'm glad the zoo staff are aware about Gin's tooth. His friends too are trying to get it out from him but they can't. LOL I saw an earlier video of Gin when he was about 4 or 5 n he looks so cute just like Fubuki. At that time Deky was around and when Deky pan hooted and charged, Gin would then go to Deky to see how he is just like what Fubuki is doing.

Amazing video! I thought Dr. Miru was going to pull that sucker. Gin will remove it all the way soon. He has already gone through the worst of it. He must have been working on that for hours. The root was mostly free. I know many think the zoo should have pulled it a year ago or so but chimps don't do very well with anesthesia. Many chimps die from it so that is why they didn't put him under and remove it. We all felt bad for his condition but he is a tough chimp. When it got to be to much he solved the problem by pushing on it until it popped out. When an amazing animal he is.

I guess my problem is I don't think of them as animals as much as thinking feeling beings. I wish we all could have the same opinion. and I wish we had better ways of communicating with them and working with them so that they aren't just sitting around doing nothing. Any being with a conscience or feelings would go crazy with nothing to do. But I think it's sweet the way that Jen is going to each of them for comfort that's supposed to say can you guys believe this.

Good morning, my Tama Chimp Fan friends.... Those on the Tama Zoo staff closest to Gin have been there since they human raised him his first year. They are watching extremely close. Honestly, the very best thing to minimize infection and avoid potential life-threatening anasthesia is for Gin to dislodge the canine himself. I realize it is incredibly hard to watch. It is for me. Like many of you, Gin is my favorite. He is very special....the very heart & soul of the Tama troupe. Hopefully by this viewing, he has dislodged it, and the staff vets are determining whether an antibiotic is required. Although we share 98% DNA, our biologies have differences. Chimps are very resilient against infection. I have an email into my Tama contact, and will report back if I get a reply.

I see a lot of people commenting on how it's dangerous to knock them out because they could possibly die while under. Without getting into the billions of reasons why I've come to know this, I'll just say that this world lies to us about far too many things, and that sounds exactly like the type of thing they'd say to avoid spending time and money on "just a dumb animal". If it were truly that dangerous, they'd never dart them for transport, or checkups. The cheap bastards just don't want to spend the money... But they have no problem spending money to go get them, take them from the wild, imprison them, and exploiting them for money. Interesting isn't it? What a disgusting world this is!

In my opinion i dont think he needs surgery. You can tell his tooth is all the way detached its just hanging on by the skin. Which is a good thing they shouldnt have to put him under and dig it out. It should just eventually fall out once the skin breaks. But it should have been pulled along time ago i think. But at least the whole tooth came out though.

Poor Gin...at about the 4:28 mark, after his dental exam from Berry, you can see that his canine (I think) is just hanging on by a thread. It looks like it's in the last stage that a human child's baby tooth is in right before it comes out. I only hope it feels like that, but I fear he is in a lot of pain, as that is no baby tooth. The lack of a canine would definitely hurt any chances he might have to one day become the alpha male of this group. What a shame.
@dmgib5239
@dmgib5239 5 жыл бұрын
It's definitely the canine. After watching the whole video I think 6:44 is the best view of it. It is only hanging on by the root, which means he's in terrible pain and at risk for a bad infection. They need to dart him and yank that thing out while he's under. It's the only humane thing to do. Anybody who has had a root canal knows the kind of pain he is in and in my opinion there is nothing worse. It will consume his every waking minute until it is dealt with.

Hopefully it will be out soon, I can’t watch this whole video because I’ve had tooth pain, ( Gin is a star in my opinion ) and can’t imagine not being able to tell someone I’m hurting. I trust the vets at the zoo are doing their best with this situation. I’m thinking they are giving a mild antibiotic and pain killer or not, I’m not a vet, so I can’t give an opinion. I’m sure if it was worse he’d be in their sick room. He probably doesn’t want to be locked up from his family, they are all one big family. Get well soon Gin!!!

Yes, as someone who has suffered from tooth pain (abscess that required root canal) it is hard to watch. I have suffered broken bones and other sports related injuries growing up, but nothing was worse than that tooth pain. It was just constant and relentless. A female coworker of mine agreed, but said childbirth is worse. I can't speak to that, but whatever decision they make, I just hope poor Gin doesn't suffer to much.

But I hope a infection doesn't develop in his gum picking at it... Miru seems to be keeping an eye on it too...

Sad video. Contrary to popular belief, Gin was likely in extreme pain. According to Zoologist, animals including primates have developed the ability to hide pain in order to survive. Pain implies a weakness and many animals attack the weak to increase their own chance of survival. Masking pain is not just in wild animals but our own domestic dogs and cats have this ability as well. Another channel that rescues chimps has brought in oral surgeons and risked anesthesia because infected abscessed teeth are also deadly if poison gets in the bloodstream. The good news is Chimps are very resilient and can survive when a human could not.

OH my goodness!!! Look how intelligent they really are. Berry and Miru knows how much pain Gin is in from the tooth that's causing it. Just goes to show that it doesn't take a rocket scientist to figure some things out. He is in so much pain and is trying everything with his limited knowledge to stop it. He can't eat properly and is losing weight. Any longer like this he will be too weak to fight off and y infection that may turn bad and kill him. What the hell is the zoo doing??? Are they waiting for his dental plan to process or what??? This is an ongoing issue with him and should have been addressed years ago!!!

Heartbreaking to watch, nevertheless quite fascinating to witness the social situation of it all amongst the group. I hate it for him, he's obviously in a lot of pain and discomfort... I also understand the risk involved with a surgery as well.. I would lose it if something happened to Gin. He's the most amazing chimp I've ever seen. Always something incredibly special about him... beyond Chimp standards and our own for that matter... Speaking of Amazing, extraordinary and special..... How is the real KING OF TAMA doing? I hope Decky is healing well, he'd probably understand Gin's pain during all of this, his 'canines' (/??) were removed from his early pet days right? Give them both ice cream, they deserve it!

I get what you're saying, but couldn't it also be said that he is only shaking around like that (12:55-13:00) because it is bothering him terribly. The only thing that is certain is the possibility of an infection, which means it's time for the staff to act.

This is pathetic!!! The zoo claims that they care and protect the animals to their best ability? This is not giving a shit! If anything was wrong with little Buki, the zoo would have him in the operating room immediately! So why is Gin suffering?!? If that tooth gets infected which I'm sure it already is, it will be too late and he will die. Why does Gin have to suffer? Does he not matter??? Further more, it's obvious that they are cold. Gin is literally shivering and the rest of them are covered in thick horse blankets. Get them the hell inside!!! Who the fuck is running this place lately???

I was thinking the same thing as you months ago when I first noticed his tooth was pointing forward. Wondering why they don't take it out. I'm trying to give them benefit of the doubt. Maybe they are hoping to have it fall out naturally as it would in the wild. I'm sure that they only want to anesthetize them in severe cases. If it doesn't fall out soon, I think they should do something.

Brian Hubis I hear you but have you heard of a dry socket? That's when the tooth comes out and leaves a deep crater with a tiny bit of the nerve root exposed to the elements. It is a pain straight from hell. Just breathing air passing over the open nerve root or any temperature change even as much as a tenth of a degree will send so much pain through his mouth and even up into his brain. That's why he is shaking his head frantically. The cold outside air must be so much for this sweet prince. This is torture. The zoo should know better. Especially one so established as this one. This is one of the better zoos that care for their chimps but I cannot sit back here and see this happening without commenting. This is tearing me apart. What's is really fascinating here is that the other chimps are so sympathetic to him and trying everything possible to help while the humans sit back and let nature take over. If this root becomes infected it's game over for him.
@dmgib5239
@dmgib5239 5 жыл бұрын
Has anyone gotten a good look inside Gin's mouth since his left canine came out? I'm wondering if it came out completely with the root (this is what human dentist's do when they pull a tooth), or if it just broke off at the base, leaving the root exposed? Hopefully it came out completely because if it didn't he will have further dental problems as he ages. If his root is exposed he will start chewing all of his food on the other side of his mouth, which will cause the teeth on that side to wear down prematurely. Gin is a very tough chimp, but having bad teeth in the future could make it very tough for him to make a run at becoming the alpha male.
