That gillmore special is so cool .Love those 54`s ,I have a 54 panel van with a carbureted 4.3 gm engine .I use a one wire 10SI .and found I had to rev engine to cut the alternator in.It never would charge at an idle,I changed the regulator from A circuit to a B circuit one ,now it charges soon as the engine starts and charges at a slow idle.I have a WAI part number if you need it.

@@chevahaulic OK I keep on forgetting that you use salt on the roads Here in Western Australia the only place that might get a very light sprinkle/dusting is about 50kms away down south of me in Albany on a place called Bluff Knole and that may happen about once every 3ish years We definitely NEVER salt our roads You would love it here Matt

Not a flexplate. You're in for a special treat getting that Hydramatic offa there! I might recommend reading the manual first!

Good to know Jeff !!

@@chevahaulic I hope you didn't bid the job, unless it's just straight hourly! They don't use torque converters, but "fluid couplings". You have to leave the fluid coupling on the engine and pull that 300 pound trans, dumping 3 quarts of fluid on your floor! Then you get to separate the halves so you can access the crank bolts, THEN you can change the ring gear, IF you can find one. By the way, I know where there's 4 of those trans.
@chevahaulic2 жыл бұрын
@@ElderlyIron that figures , they would make it super fun to work on. I've played with a few of these early transmissions , but from Cadillac's and Oldsmobile's . Knowing the bell housings on these early chevys . I know this was going to be fun . Might be why I keep dragging my feet on doing it :)

Fun stuff going on in the shop as usual. I'm liking your banger racer. Why not custom make your own speed equipment? You did the header, you can always shave the head and...
@chevahaulic2 жыл бұрын
Thanks George. To wake a banger up , it needs a cam , and a hi compression head . I could of shaved the head , but that doesn't get you far with a stock headed combustion chamber . We have plans for the next engine , this one will do fine to get things going

Can a ring gear be sized with the existing starter or upgrade starter to allow use of different flex plate? 🤔
