Yall are making less but you're doing wonderful things with the money you do have. You're still debt free aside from your mortgage and contributing to savings. I'm proud of you and happy for you!

Great video, Marissa. I admire you and Jacob for having the foresight to adjust accordingly. That is half the battle, I swear! My February is going well so far. Spending is pretty low compared to the same time in January. I am looking forward to seeing the big picture at the end of the month. I may be looking into your bookkeeping course. I have become a finance nerd in the past few years and I have known how to use Quicken for a while now, plus I would like a tangible side hustle. Thanks for offering that course.

Hey Marissa! I don't know if you have it. But I recommend getting a water softener for your house.

Hi Marissa, so glad you're back! Congratulations on your move! Hope you feel better soon. Any chance you could one day go over your recommendations for term insurance and how to choose a good plan? Also, I noticed the last few budget recaps that you stopped going over your net worth calculations, will you ever bring these back?

Do you know what proposed property taxes will be for next year? I remember that when we had our new build-getting that big jump in monthly payment. That sure sucked lol. Not sure if it works the same in AZ.

Yes! When we were closing on the house they had an estimate so we’re saving that much each month (plus a little more just in case).

Very interesting comparing a US budget to UK.
@nadineedwards4771
@nadineedwards4771 6 ай бұрын
US mortgages are a lot higher than UK. Saving for college isn’t a thing in the UK. Our taxes are taken from our salaries. Our taxes are 33% so much higher. UK groceries are cheaper and home insurance is SO much cheaper in the UK never heard of it being more than £200 for the year here. Car insurance, fuel, home electric and heating similar cost

Lol this is probably a dumb question but you earn the 5% every month? Like if you have 20K in a high yield savings account, you’d make 1K a month? LOL I just wanted to clarify!!!!
@TheBudgetingWife
@TheBudgetingWife 6 ай бұрын
Haha not a dumb question! It’s an annual rate. So 5.05% of the total divided by 12 is what you’d make every month. 😊

Why didn’t you do escrow? Is it more expensive to do it that way?

I was wondering about that too

I can't speak for Marissa but I also don't do escrow for a couple reasons. I can save the money monthly in a high yield savings account and earn a little interest. Also I like to be able to modify how much I'm saving each month when I get my updated property tax estimate from the county and my updated insurance premium amount. The mortgage company usually does this evaluation once a year and then adjusts your payment. I like to be in control of that. Also, at closing you have to pay 3 months of taxes and insurance into the escrow account which makes closing costs more expensive and isn't really necessary for them to hold that extra money.

We put 25% down so we didn’t need to go through Escrow! Escrow isn’t more expensive. I just prefer to save the money in my high yield savings account and make extra income on it when I set it aside each month. 😊

How do you use credit cards? Do you put all your purchases on a credit card(s) and then pay it off each month? Just curious how you pay for things and keep track if it. thanks!

Yes! Pay off credit cards in full every month! I track the expenses and record them in my budget like I would if it was with a debit card!

I bought your budget template and have been using it for the last few months! It’s been great to record our expenses and work towards paying off our debt! One question for you, do both fsa and hsa rollover year after year? I also maxed out for this year but I thought I would lose it if I didn’t use it

So glad it’s been helpful for you!! For medical you can do either the FSA or HSA depending on which medical plan you have. The HSA rolls over and the FSA does not.

For FSA it depends on your employer (apparently it depends on what they select). My employer allows FSA (health only, not dependent care) rollover. The IRS limit for 2024 is $640 can be rolled into your 2025 FSA, so check with your employer.
@carolperrytx
@carolperrytx 6 ай бұрын
Understood! Thank you both for your responses! I have FSA so I don’t believe I can rollover. I’m having my baby this year so I’ll definitely be using it all. I’ll review if it’s worth to max it out again next year
@shaunakaplan9187

@@carolperrytx You are welcome! I didn't know that FSA rollover was dependent on what your employer selects until recently, since my FSA for the past 5+ years has been with the same employer that has allowed health FSA rollovers since I started doing them and I look at the IRS website for rollover limit (it usually goes up a little every 1-2 years). So I'd still check with your HR to see if your employer has the type that allows FSA rollovers to the IRS limit. Doesn't hurt to check and they should know.

Do you budget using excel and the Simplifi app? If so, what's your process: Excel then Simplifi, or vice versa, or something else? Thanks.
