Here I show you week 4 of the Kim Diehl mysery project from Simple Whatnots IV. PLUS making 4 dresden plate cornerstone blocks is NOT EASY when they don't give you the instructions because you didn't buy THE TOOL!!!!! However, even though it's not like the photo, I'm figuring it out and liking the results so far. Now to move on to 144 half square triangles without having the required THANGLES. Oiy. Shout out to ‪@Charmedbyashley‬ for having the free Dresden Plate templates that I used for these mini dresden plates. Go to her website at www.charmedbyashley.com and check it out.

Good on you for perservering! I am always a bit wary of fabric with stripes as it can be crooked and really create a problem. Sounds like they really skimped on fabric allowance for this kit. Its looking good though!

@@threadmybobbin Yup. I'm looking at my fabric patterns with a whole new eye. One way patterns and stripes require much thought.

It seems so frustrating, I'm pretty sure I would have just given up on the Dresden Plate and done a different block as my cornerstone. I wouldn't have even tried with that lined print either, I would have immediately swapped it out or, in all honesty, I would probably have decided that it was not a kit for me, packaged it up and given it away. You are far more patient than I.

@@fredmakesthings Well, I think that is why it was still in the 'Kit' Bin for the last ten years. It was just waiting for me to have the time and patience to figure it out without the special tools. I'm gonna like the results!

Sounds like this one is really giving your problem solving skills a workout! So strange that you had to add more "spines" than what the pattern called for. They look really nice; sort of like the rays of the sun, or a giant sunflower, or even a turkey tail (and I mean that in a nice way; turkeys might be ridiculous birds but they have magnificent tails). The colors you chose for it are quite pretty & look good together. I feel your frustrations on the crooked prints/cuts, though. An uneven cut or lopsided print can make even the calmest sewist want to rip their hair out.

@@susanowen1709 Definitely giving my brain a workout. Maybe it will help me delay dementia (LOL).
