I am very proud to read John's name and story in my family tree. My ancestor gives me great courage for what I know we are about to face in our near future as Christians.

He is also in my family tree, when I was younger I remember hearing stories about how one of our family members was burned at the stake, so I started reading some family books that we have and it turns out that he was a brother I think to one of our family members in that time.

Well a lovely start to the week Claire! I can but only marvel at the courage of this man and others who followed him to such a horrible death because of their refusal to deny their faith, we can shudder as we look back at how the world was then, but we have to remember Catholicsm had been seen as the true faith for hundreds of years and then the reformists came along, no wonder the Catholics got shirty, their belief as very real to them as that of the reformists, Queen Mary saw reform as the evil viper in the heart of the catholic breast and was determined to stamp it out, a horrible way to die surely the worst and John Rogers surely deserves his place in history as the first Protestant matyr.

Interesting that this video is on the same day...Monday...as the execution so many years ago. Also...not sure why your reading gets any thumbs down. It makes no sense. All you are doing is reading a moment of History. Sometimes, methinks, some people want to put a damper on things. Thankfully, they can't here, as we are enjoying your videos. Thanks again!

Makes me wonder how he would have been perceived in modern times, having such a strong faith yet neglecting his family. How could they have survived in those times? A great topic for late night discussion eh? Thanks for your postings. Cx

Neglecting his family?? Not true.. If he would have recanted; what kind of example would he have set for his family? I am sure the Most High provided for his family. Bible says a fearful man will not inherit the kingdom of heaven. Anytime you read a book written by Rome/Jesuits, you better know they lie... They will always try to make the children of God as being evil. They lie. They also are responsible for dating historical documents and lying to distort the truth... And if it was up to them, the Bible would not exist today and pedophilia would be a good thing.

I enjoy these videos. I have a question that is off topic but wondered about your opinion. You have probably given it in other places I have not seen because I just became interested in the Tudors in the last few years. (I’m American) What is your opinion on whether Catherine of Aragon and Arthur consummated their marriage?
@anneboleynfiles
@anneboleynfiles 5 жыл бұрын
I can't see how or why they wouldn't have consummated their marriage. Any 16th century person would have known that a marriage was not valid or legal if consummation hadn't taken place. It was their duty to consummate it and to have children as quickly as possible.

@@anneboleynfiles Sorry, but I have to disagree. Having studied the character of Katherine, I cannot believe that she would have lied before the Court - - - especially when the consequences to her & her daughter were so serious. The King's displeasure was no small matter in those days. But perjury was of even more consequence to her. She valued her immortal soul above all. 🙏
@anneboleynfiles
@anneboleynfiles 5 жыл бұрын
@@h.calvert3165 I used to think that, but the more I read about her the more I'm inclined to think that she could lie if she felt it was for the greater good, in this case saving her husband's soul from eternal damnation. We know that she could lie, as she did to her father regarding her miscarriage in the early years of her marriage. Just my opinion though. It would have been very odd for the heir to the throne to have been married for that many months without consummating a marriage. It was vital that it was consummated otherwise it could be undone. Arthur certainly suggested that it had been and Catherine did not say otherwise at the time.

I'm Curious if you know anything about the Sir Knight William, " Garrett" name in the US. I'm his 14th great Granddaughter and would love to know more. From what I have found that during the Tutor's time this family had a special contract from Queen Elizabeth I and Ivan the terrible to be able to trade with them. I'm very sick and am unable to cross the Pond to find the answer's. I just wondered if you knew anything.

Why were they so concerned with other people's religious beliefs? What did it matter to the Queen what your religion was? I get that she thought protestants were wrong, but if you're wrong, why is that HER concern?
@annalisette5897
@annalisette5897 5 жыл бұрын
The Roman Catholic faith teaches transubstantiation which means the priest has the ability to turn the Eucharist--bread and wine--into the actual body and blood of Christ. As I understand the history, Queen Mary Tudor truly believed she was saving protestants by burning them. They had the chance to recant and if they did not, the torture of burning would help to expiate their sins so they would be punished less in the afterlife. Queen Elizabeth I had one of the best comments about religion, "There is one Christ, Jesus. The rest is trifles over nothing." I have also read this as, "There is one God and one Christ Jesus. The rest..." I have done a lot of research into some history a few hundred years before the Tudors, as well as early Christian history. The deeper I got into it the more shocked I was that things we may consider to be religion or necessary to reach God or honour Jesus, were actually created to further or expedite political viewpoints and controls. Also shocking is the extent that Christianity was used to subdue pagans and mould divergent groups into large political states or empires. The true tragedy of religion happened when it became conjoined to politics which was the point where people could be murdered by the state for what they thought and believed.

It is hard for us today to understand stand, but Mary felt that she had a duty to her people to protect their immortal souls. She believed that heretics were dangerous to her people. In her eyes, they were leading people to hell.

Yes, Mary I burned her share of Protestants, but her nickname "bloody mary" is unfair if none of her preceding Monarch's were also to be named as such. The Catholic's in England were treated brutally by her father and brother and they were responsible for just as many deaths as Mary, if not more. She was given that name by the Protestants in England who have been in power since she died, with the exception of James II. History is always written by those in power. I'm not Mary was right, but both sides were fanatical in those times, not just her.

It's like different sects of muslims. They worship the same God. But have fought each other for ages. For control of ideology of course, land,and wealth also. It's not just about religious doctrine. Its about who rules the masses. Because they have control over everything including the money.

@KnightOfTheKing I have absolutely no doubt that Jesus Christ walked upon this earth and was crucified by the pharocies who were afraid of the effect his teachings were having on their followers. And I think that the church has been shaped if you will to control the populace. What would Jesus Christ think of the greed, pedophilia, ect. That exists in the Church today? I won't judge. We will leave that to heaven.

How do you figure that? The country was Catholic when Henry VIII declared himself the head of the new Church of England (which was only done so he could Mary Anne Boleyn by the way). He forced the whole country to swear the oath of allegiance to him as the head of this church. If you didn't do this you were put to death for treason. Look up Saint Thomas More. That's what started everything.

@@dmgib5239..........like I said , when the country was officially catholic , and they feared the people were waking up , the catholic church started persecuting people.......by the way , henry was ALWAYS a catholic , even though he " broke " from the church /rome . you wrote , " (which was only done so he could Mary Anne Boleyn by the way) "...........DUHHHHHHHHHHHHH we ALL know that...............the catholics set the precedent for persecution , so they got what they breathed............
@dmgib5239

Yes, Henry remained a catholic in his heart. I never said he didn't. The whole point of me saying, " Henry VIII declared himself the head of the new Church of England (which was only done so he could Mary Anne Boleyn by the way)," was to prove this change had nothing to do with actual religion, but was only done for his own selfish personal reasons....DUHHHHHHHHHHH. However, Cromwell and all his men that were used to put the dissolution of the monasteries into effect were violent and brutal. Not only did they kill many people while destroying 90% of the religious art in the country and stealing everything they could get their hands on. They also took everything away from Mary, including her legitimacy and even her right to visit her terminally ill mother. There is much more I can say, but my original point was that Mary wasn't the only one who was a "fanatic" in those times. Maybe you disagree, as it is obvious you hate Catholics. She may deserve the term bloody Mary, but if is also true that many on the other side deserved similar names. This didn't happen because protestants have been the power in England since Mary's death (except for James II). Just like everywhere else the people in power write the history.
