The #Cameroon Football Federation has officially issued an open call for kit manufacturers to dress the national teams.
This follows their announcement on August 6, indicating that September games will mark the last time Cameroon plays in gears from One All Sports.
The federation ended its partnership with the company due to unmet commitments and financial issues.
Initially hailed as a lucrative deal, the partnership failed to deliver promised benefits, including a VIP bus for the national teams and significant annual payments.
Reports indicate that One All Sports did not fulfill key contractual obligations, leading to dissatisfaction among stakeholders.
With Cameroon seeking a new kit manufacturer, it's worth reflecting on the interesting relationships with past suppliers and the unique designs we've seen.
A) Cameroon's National Kit Manufacturers
Cameroon's national football team has a rich history of kit suppliers, showcasing its vibrant football culture.
The team has switched suppliers multiple times, with Puma holding the longest relationship from 1998 to 2018.
Statistics reveal that Puma was the first gear supplier for the Indomitable Lions in 1980. This partnership lasted two years before Le #Coq Sportif took over in 1982, dressing the team for the Africa Cup of Nations after they failed to qualify for four previous editions.
Their time ended in 1984. In 1984, Adidas provided the Lions with an #AFCON-winning shirt-green home and yellow away-leading to their first AFCON victory.
However, this partnership ended, and Le Coq Sportif returned in 1986.
#Adidas came back in 1988, helping us secure our second AFCON title and giving us one of Cameroon's most iconic jerseys-the 1990 World Cup jersey.
I mean, who doesn’t love that design? It’s my favorite because it represents our historic run to the World Cup quarter-finals!
In 1993, #Lotto joined the mix but only lasted a year bef ore Mitre took over in 1994.
Their designs weren’t exactly memorable, paving the way for Adidas’s triumphant return until 1998 when Puma stepped back in..
From 1998 to 2018, the Indomitable Lions won three AFCON titles and two consecutive titles in 2000 and 2002 and 2017
Puma revitalized our kits with innovative designs, including the iconic sleeveless jersey in 2002 , the memorable one-piece jersey in 2004 and notable kits in 2014 and 2018.
However, this relationship also ended.Le Coq Sportif took over from mid-2019 until mid-2022 when One All Sports stepped in.
Now, Cameroon is officially without a kit maker. Which brings us to the question
B) Who Will Succeed One All Sports?
It is alleged that FECAFOOT is in talks with Adidas to take over. While nothing is confirmed, their long history with Cameroon and past successes make them a strong candidate.
However, time is short; Cameroon plays Kenya on October 7 and 15-less than three weeks away. Therefore, it’s likely that FECAFOOT will opt for former suppliers like Adidas or Puma.
Personally I would love to see a remake of the iconic 1990 FIFA World Cup jersey or the 2002 sleeveless AFCON winning jersey (but this time with proper sleeves),
But hey, I’m also excited about bold new designs from emerging manufacturers!
How about Airness?
They did an amazing job with Mali’s Eagles during AFCON 2023-I’d love to see what they could create for our Indomitable Lions!
Other brands worth considering include Tovio for Burkina Faso, Tempo for Cape Verde, or even Lacatoni and Duly for Angola.
And if we’re talking big names, Nike has done wonders for Nigeria; every release is a hit!
Imagine if they brought that magic to Cameroon too!
At the end of the day, Puma and Adidas remain top contenders when it comes to kit manufacturers in Africa.
That wraps up today’s discussion! I want to hear from you: If you’re Cameroonian, which company would you like to see dress our national team? For my non-Cameroonian viewers, what’s your favorite jersey worn by Cameroon? And here’s a fun question: which kit maker has consistently produced the best kits over the years?
Leave your thoughts in the comments below-I can’t wait to read them! And before you go, don’t forget to like this video and subscribe for more football content. See you next time
