The bureaucracy in this country is ridiculous. This has to stop. It’s a postal service. Do you seriously need 6 months to figure out the problem? Here it is in 30 seconds. Too much upper level management, trying to fix a problem that isn’t there. If you expect to loose money as a crown corporation in order to guarantee services to all Canadians, then don’t turn around and try and make it super efficient and profitable by people who have never done the job?? KEEP IT SIMPLE STUPID!! It offends me that 60-70% of money gets taken in taxes in order to pay for the idiots running this country into the ground. And to my fellow Canadians that keep voting for these idiots, know you understand why Canadian culture is changing. This why we don’t say hello or good morning as much. This is why people don’t pull over and offer help when in distress. This is why it’s becoming normal to step over a dying overdose. This government has ruined Canada and we need a change!!!

I lived abroad in Asia (specifically Japan and South Korea) this past year and saw that service workers don’t get even half the pay as Canadians but are far more efficient and professional with their services (there isn’t even a tipping culture there). Even when Canada Post is functioning, they are always delayed or somehow always end up frustrating you with their services. There’s always something. The amount of laziness, incompetence and settling for pure mediocrity to me is astounding. I honestly couldn’t help but laugh when they announced their strike. These adult babies don’t know how good they have it compared to others.

Recently a comparison was done between Dragonfly (formerly Intelcom), a private delivery service that has contracts with Amazon along with other big box stores, and Canada Post. When a Dragonfly van is out on a delivery route, the cost of operation is $25/hr. When a Canada Post van is out on delivery, the cost is $60/hr. Now I won’t say that Dragonfly couldn’t and shouldn’t pay better, but a $35/hr difference in operating costs is massive and completely unjustifiable.

@rickbateman2401
@rickbateman2401 2 сағат бұрын
@ except Dragonfly has no trouble finding workers and I didn’t say you should work for that, I said there was a MASSIVE discrepancy between what the private sector supports in wages and what the public sector pays - please at least try and pay attention. Why should we give the large wages as well as the pretty much jobs for life guarantee and other massive perks to public sector employees when their employers can’t get a sniff at any of that???? It’s not a hard job.

You can use this argument for any kind of strike. At the end of the day, striking is the /only/ means that the labour force has as their final leverage. Companies have many different means to collude with each other and harm the common working person, whereas this is our tool. And you advocate giving up this one tool we have to our corporate billionaire overlords and the governments they puppeteer? You'd be giving the foxes the key to the coop. I'm not a member of CUPW and don't even know anyone that does, but i still stand with them. Organizing as a union and boycotting our labour to a company is a fundamental human right in our constitution

Why doesn't any news agency investigate the conflict of interest that Canada Post has? Canada Post owns 91% of Purolator. That means they made tens of millions of dollars by not paying their workers while their shipping company benefitted. Every economist said that if the settlement wasn't 16% over 4 years then the work force would actually make less money. Canada Post offered 11% because they profit from the strike.

I'm a Canadian and I do not like Canada Post. I sell products that I manufacture in the USA and in Europe, I don't sell in Canada because shipping costs are outrageous. How about $27 to ship a 3" x 3" x 3" box with 90grams in it from Alberta to Montreal? Yet I can ship a 4kg box from here to almost anywhere in the USA for the same Amount via UPS. And yet I have a lousy UPS contract. I find the workers slow and regimented when I'm at the post office. No matter how many people are in the lineup, they just walk away when it's their coffee break, often leaving one person at the counter. And they like to chit chat while we all wait in line. And only Canada Post workers would go on strike and demand a 24% raise knowing their employer was billions in debt and recently lost another 315 million. I would recommend going to a 2 day a week delivery system. Perhaps then employee numbers could be reduced by 30 to 40% to make things more viable. Most of my mail is flyers anyway.

Also you can put up to 11 lbs in that box all for the same cost of under $19 and you get the box. !!!! The reason why it's cheaper to send out to the US is because once it leaves canada, canada post no longer has to pay people to process it DUH.

CUPW have been working in good faith on a contract that expired during covid. We were willing to forego our annual pay increases to help the company get through covid. The big shots continued, giving themselves bonuses, even though the company was losing money. Now the company is unwilling to negotiate. Though CUPW is within their constitutional rights to strike, none of us wanted it to come to this.

Simple solution. Privatize Canada Post. Layoff 75% of them by down sizing. Have a stipulation in the contract that delivery must remain for a minimum of once a week to the remote and rural areas currently receiving mail delivery. As for the town and city's most people have gone electric delivery and deposit for everything. A once a week or even once every two weeks for those vary few (if any) snail mail that still comes. Most flyers are online now and for those that aren't , let the kids get vack to delivering them . There are still some kids that would love the chance to earn some money and they have a better work ethic than any postal employee. At least we wouldn't get 4 or5 of the same flyers in our nsil box because the postal employee wants to their day faster. Fire 75%of the regardless of whether it's Privatized or not. It will be run more efficiently and when keep the 25% of employees, they will be the once thst actually want to work. Looking for to Canada post 2.0

They can't go out once or twice a week to the rural areas it won't work. These are the areas that order online the most. And the areas that fed ex, dhl, ups, transfer to canada post because they loose money going to them. The parcels need delivered daily so might as well drop the letters off at the same time. Unless it's very small community like 10 po boxs or something.

We also need an elected Senate where we can hold senators accountable for backing up tyrants like this.

Trudeau was quick to freeze accounts and run away on vacation and not hear out the truckers. He chose to ignore this Canada Post issue of with holding paid services and keeping people’s purchased property as hostage. Beyond unreasonable! I live far north in Canada we don’t have malls up here. I wanted to buy more of the Black Friday sales but didn’t due to the non delivery. I hope the businesses sue Canada Post. Canada Post needs the Union desolved and get people who appreciate being employed! Or someone should set up a new postal delivery competitor. These current postal workers act like that are still riding pony express and risking life to get the mail through. I have official house purchase and deed out there in the mail somewhere. The email confirmation is just copies and not legal stamped punched and signed documents. This has been maddening.

About time to legislate those workers back to their jobs where hopefully they will resume at least a moderate level of zest in exchange for their pay cheques. As a Canadian of over 65 I can see this strike was just a money-grab by workers in a declining industry. Well guess what?. this by this strike the union has managed to turn some Canadians against postal employees. Even as a retiree I will continue to embrace new technologies to avoid having to purchase a stamp and paper just to send a letter. Packages are also of limited occurrence in my life and less so every passing year. Incoming and outgoing payments are almost all done electronically and none are done by mail due to the risk of theft and time delays. Still lots of Canadian small businesses use Canada Post and there are people that do not or can not easily embrace electronic payments, And sending cards and note on attractive stationary has greatly declined due to the cost of food and housing in Canada, no money is leftover for those frivolities.

Also its not the unions decision if Canada Post want to deliver on weekends using part time workers, just sit down and do your job. You don't like your job, then quit or find another.
