Federal Signal: Eclipse 8's, Alert - Purdue University, West Lafayette, Indiana

This is a recording of Purdue's new siren system recorded on Saturday, February 2nd during their regular monthly test. The new system replaced all of the 2T22's, 3T22's, and the STH-10 on campus with Eclipse 8's. Two 2001-130's were added to the system just off campus. In this video, you can hear all of those sirens along with a few of the surrounding 2001's in the county. The first siren you hear is the 2001-130 that replaced the Thunderbolt 1000T on top of West Lafayette High School and the last one that winds down is the 2001-130 out at the Grand Prix track off campus.

Yes, it is still up. I don't know for sure but that's a safe bet that the higher pitched 2001 is the one at the GP track.

The eclipse 8 isn't too bad... This one isn't as harmonic though. This new system creates a very doom feel to it. Although the sirens are single tone (Which the STH-10 was as well) as compared to the 1000T and the 2T22's/3T22's which were dual tone, they actually seem to get a pretty effective range. 2 2001s and the 2 eclipses themselves just create a scary sound but both of them together are nuts!!! The last one was very harmonic and quite honestly beautiful and possibly could have been mistaken with other sounds. Don't get me wrong... The old system was rad. But this one isn't too bad.

Guys if you think these Federal signal eclipse 8's are speaker sirens think again look closer. You will notice that it has a motor in it not a speaker. (if that answered yalls questions) And yes the old system with the STH-10s and 3t22s and 100ts sound better

The Eclipse sure isn't a very impressive performer in terms of sound. I will always prefer the Tempest line compared to Federal's new line.

Yes it has. It was struck by lightning and replaced with a 130 before the Eclipses were installed.
