Thank you so much for the inspiring talk! As a designer working in the VR industry recently, this is the first time I heard about synthetic realities but the concept echos with my personal working experience and it certainly brought up many questions that worth to be thought on and seriously examined in the works. Thank you to Google Talks for organizing the talk events too. Definitely looking forwards to see more events like this!

Interesting talk. Having designed and built VR’s at Atari in 80’s, IBM Research in 90’s and even launched 3D virtual worlds for biz collaboration in 2000’s (search KZbin for “Lotus Virtual Collaboration) VR continues to be an expensive (software and hardware) technology in search of a solution. Yes, for entertainment it is just that - entertaining. But almost every other use feels contrived. VR only has value when the object of focus is itself 3D in nature, when moving around that 3D object/environment and seeing/interacting with others in-world provides additional insights. Video games, education about 3D topics, and working on collaborative design of 3D objects all leverage VR well. Partying, biz meetings, shopping, and just about everything else is just overuse of technology with no more value than a 2D UX, movies and audio.

Actually right and wrong. The only fault in the explorations and deployment of Next generation experiential computing is our current tendencies to hoard and control everything. Pitching and eventually trying to deploy things of this sort are funded an Ethos reforming challenge at the core. Your last statement is baffling, see as you claimed to have experience in this field. Giving all options, you will almost never choose a 2D option expect for rare Cases based on Aesthetic choices. Literally almost nothing as humans experience it is exclusively 2D. Will 2D exists in nature, it’s already mediated and incorporated into its higher dimensional counterparts with greater fidelity. Literally all those scenarios you mentioned literally happened in anything but “exclusively 2D”….2D has it may just happens to be the abstraction layer we have been stuck with for a while now, it is not something we explicitly intentionally opted for….our constraints merely demanded so

So like what is KZbin. Like book KZbin doesn't even go into analysis. You can't even see how local government works, like who looks into inequality. Like what is a bank in the local economy. Like I don't even get anything on how to fix things around me. Its overwhelming beauty lifestyle. Like that doesn't really matter to me. Like what is construction. Like what is shipping port. Like what is traffic. Where can I look up where products come from. This is not helpful at all. Its just really advertising the new colonialism.
