A lot of people don't know, but Fedor was also competing in and AFAIK undefeated in SAMBO from 1999-2008 (he took the L at the SAMBO worlds in 2008 ending the streak.) This means he was on a win streak in 2 highly competitive combat sports at the same time. I feel like that's at least worth considering.

It was like watching an old warrior enter Valhalla, that entire arena was full of love, respect and admiration. Determining the GOAT is basically having an election. Candidates are the athletes with the best resumes. The GOAT will be the representative of the people. Someone they can relate to (a 6ft chubby guy with family values), who goes against all odds (going up against bigger, sometimes roided up guys) and succeeds. Giving the inspiration to the average people that they too can overcome obstacles and adversities in their life, should they put in the hard work. As an old timer national level wrestler I was glued to Pride and UFC..!! What most people don't take into account is that after UFC bought out Pride most of the Pride fighters had a significant period of inactivity before resuming the fight game..!! In my opinion Pride had the best fighters in its prime..!! Fedor was the leader of the group..!! He was an extremely well rounded beast that most fighters feared..!! It's between Fedor and GSP for me..!!

For once i agree with Sonnen there was something special about a fedor fight between 2002 and 2010 , he had that mIKE Tyson mysticism ,before his fight he was crushing all his opponents whenever we expected it to be competitive. To me he was the first real mma superstar.

Fedor is the goat because of his accomplishments and how he fought.. Just look at the guy in his prime. The only one coming close in tenacity is Cain Velascuez in his prime.. he was special too.. but had a short career because of injuries.. and he didnt have Fedors knockout power or hand speed. People who didnt follow MMA during the Fedor era have no idea. The shit he did at HEAVYWEIGHT is way beyond what any other fighter did. It wasnt midgets fighting.. or normal men.. it was the huge mofos who can put your lights out in one punch.. and he went 31-1-1 with the loss being because of a cut, that shouldnt have been stopped.. where he destroyed the guy in a rematch. And he went on to fight in old age with a record of 40-7-1 with 31 finishes. Yeah good luck beating that..

Fedor fought a whos who of top ten fighters , he dropped some big dudes and made it look easy. His skill set combined with mental focus for the task at hand was legendary. I'm a American, but I am proud of Fedor. Lastly he was a good sportsman
