My horse stabs the oats! What's on Muesli & Co? Oats and hay were the main feeding practices when horses were still everyday workhorses.
Today they are leisure companions and sports partners who, compared to the past, usually have to do a lot less or even spend 23 hours in a box.
Oats were considered the power fodder for enormous work. Then came the so-called modern alternative, also called pellets. A cheaper mix of various feeds - not infrequently bad for the horse's digestive system. In our experience, a diet with various types of pellet often leads to gas puffing and bellies, which, although well nourished, can actually cause pain, which is then reflected in behavioral problems.
For some time now, more and more so-called horse muesli varieties have been offered. Sometimes very specialized for individual horse breeds, age groups and uses of the horses. Many of these mixtures contain caramelized cereal flakes and / or pellets and are very high in fiber. As the word suggests, these substances "strain" the digestive system and thus draw valuable energy. In our experience, such a diet is also reflected in rideability. So what is it about a low-oat diet?
