The puppeteer is amazing, especially considering they had to match your energy and charisma. An all round great performance.

Stormbolt 4111 - I agree! The puppeteers name was Brian Panse. He was basically my twin for the entire rehearsal process so he could really lock down the movement through consistent vocalizations. Audrey II is always a marriage of skills between two performers and both performers should be recognized for the amount of skill needed in both the vocalization and the movement to bring it to life. It just goes to show you the force behind the blend of theatrics and presentation that live theatre can produce. It was a great experience. I'm glad you enjoyed it!

Stephen Grey I'm playing Seymour in April, and one of the things I'm most looking forward to is interacting with the puppets. They're just so versatile! It's amazing how something with only a mouth can have such a range of emotion.

@mindmatter623
@mindmatter623 8 жыл бұрын
+Nathan Joerndt - Thank you! I'm glad you enjoyed my rendition and thank you for the kind words. My favorite part of performing the vocals for Audrey 2 was everything involved with creating the character personality vocally. I played with not making his voice straight out the gate big and booming, but rather start out lighter and more immature as if he were a little kid growing bigger and badder with every pod upgrade. Once he was the final pod, that's when the deep menacing Audrey2 came out. It's a character I've always wanted to take on and never thought I'd get opportunity. The least favorite thing was missing the opportunity to evolve the performance and sink into new things throughout the run because of the timing restrictions with working through a puppet. Everything had to be set from the get-go and there was no room to play after it was timed and locked down with the puppeteer. All in all, I had a great time working on this production!

Dude... do you know what that puppet is?!?! Those are the REAL Audrey II puppets from the original Off-Broadway show in 1982!! Designed by Martin P. Robinson, the man behind Mr. Snuffleupagus and Telly Monster from Sesame Street! UPDATE: Turns out these puppets are actually perfect replicas of the Off-Broadway Audrey II puppets, created by the Hasty Puddings Puppet company.

Why do people keep saying adoption papers ?! It's crash coverage.
@mindmatter623
@mindmatter623 8 жыл бұрын
Because, in the film version, the line is 'press coverage'. However, in the stage show, the line is 'adoption papers' because Mr. Mushnik adopts Seymour in the song 'Mushnik and Son' (that was cut in pre-production from the film version) to secure his place as beneficiary to Seymour's imminent Fortune. Very good question. See the stage version if you can and it will all be clear.

I thought the Seymour was very good at interpreting the role. Seymour is just an awkward, poor, guy in love, with a carnivorous plant talking/singing to him. He needs time to process the whole thing, and he's being told his dreams can come true, if he listens to Audrey 2.

is there any planing between your pupeter for Audrey 2 and the voice before the performance
@mindmatter623
@mindmatter623 7 жыл бұрын
There is an intense amount of prep work that goes into bringing Audrey to to life for both the vocal performer and the Puppeteer. Once you lock down the actual vocal performance you have to do it exactly the same way every single time so that the Puppeteer who was virtually blind knows exactly when to time his movements to give the most lifelike performance possible. during the first part of the rehearsal process the performer is with you as you perform the music and sing the song so that they have an idea of what they are going to be doing from the physical standpoint. Once you both are in a comfortable area of locking down the official performance of how you would like to do it, that's when it never changes or evolves. This is the only downside to performing vocally for Audrey to. There is no real room for going off road with the performance so to speak. Once it is locked, for the sake of the Puppeteer, your performance has to be done the exact same way every single time so you can simulate the illusion of life and sentience just as easily as we all recognize each other doing it. It's a lot of work, but when you in the Puppeteer are in sync, the end result is pretty fucking awesome.
