Feed the Cats: Offseason Speed Training Through a New Lens. This presentation covers the fundamental concepts of a Feed the Cats program and offseason speed training. I discuss how to develop speed, focus on sprinting, and how to leverage the weight room without interfering with speed.
Speed is the tide that lifts all boats.

Been watching your videos a lot lately. I have no sprinting experience and I am a 36 year old liver transplant recipient. I've decided to compete at the World Transplant Games next year in the 400m. Keep putting up the great content.

I would suggest that one of, if not THE main reason why schools are struggling to recruit football players is probably down to the CBT / brain damage issue. Since that came to public awareness, all but the most “ruthless” of parents ( who still want to live out their dreams via their kids) are having second thoughts about letting their kids play sports like football. The CBT issue may even see the slow death of the sport, as it dies via the grassroots level, unless some dramatic changes are made to the rules and / or safety procedures.

That’s probably why we are starting to see an increase in flag football as well.

Great video as usual! One thing I have noticed is that coaches and trainers really overcomplicate their training programs.

I recently found your channel and truly love the idea. With essentialism in mind, is there a way to mold feed the cats into an effective distance program up to 2 miles or even 5k’s?

The trick to winning endurance races is already known. Run as many miles as you can, and use 80/20 training distribution.

How do I balance/program speed training and endurance training in the off season for the 400 and the 800?

Speed work is key. Get fast, get strong. Do those things fresh. 800 requires aerobic training in addition.

Can you please recommend a real speed coach near Fresno, CA, who follows these principles in training their athletes? I don't want an aerobic capacity coach with hodgepodge workouts for son. He needs speed and vert for basketball. He almost 13 years old. He is too slow to be a guard right now, and that's what he should be.

@@coachtonyhollerWhat about Northern or Southern CA? I'd drive to get him a good training routine that we can do at home. And to have a real coach fine tune his technique. Maybe we could meet with a coach a little further away once a month. If you could take that lacrosse team from 3 guys who could run 20 mph to 17 guys in 10 weeks, it sounds like it could be life changing for an aspiring basketball guard.

If you have a kid who enjoys football but the program is centered around that “Lombardi” mindset, how do you have that conversation of we would love to be a part of your program but this is not how you get optimal results?
