I have that wax melter- works wonderfully. Be sure to lay paper towels on end of the shelf to catch the krud before the melted wax goes over the edge.
@MikeBarryBeesАй бұрын
Yea, I was able to wrap a towel around the cage in the end. So far so good.

I haven't had a hurricane since I started keeping bees, but I use a ratchet strap to hold the hives down to the stand.
@MikeBarryBeesАй бұрын
I’ve had a few now and I’m so tired of hurricanes. But part of living near the cost I suppose. Another one forming in the gulf this week.

You will like that wax melter , love mine they great to do just what you planning.

I’m glad I got my hands on one finally!!
@FlyntFarmsАй бұрын
We do about the same with feeding down the road from you. Only the smaller hives might need a little
@MikeBarryBeesАй бұрын
Yea, just no need for me for what I need from the bees. In a more commercial setting, then maybe so.
@TracysBees8713Ай бұрын
My husband built one yesterday. Work really well solar wax melter that is.
@MikeBarryBeesАй бұрын
Yea, they’re nice to have for small amounts here and there. Just load and go.

I use mine for all of my comb and it's awesome. I've had mine for a few years now. Thanks Mike!
@MikeBarryBeesАй бұрын
That’s the same thing I hope to do with mine. Just exceed dark comb.

Thanks for the link Mike. Glad the storm didn’t cause you a lot of issues.

Good vid Mike! On my next video Ill also be talking about what I do for winter prep in my neck of the woods. Treat for mites, feed if needed and reduce space if needed. That's what I concentrate on. I'm still hoping to catch some nectar from the goldenrod and Aster but it's evading my bees right now
@MikeBarryBeesАй бұрын
Thanks! I think we’ll see a decent fall flow for the bees to build on.

👍🏻 What size is your building where you do your extracting? Looking to buy or build me a larger one.
@MikeBarryBeesАй бұрын
It’s a 12X30. I also put a 6’ high lift across the entire top. If I were to build timber again, I’d go wider. 12’ is just a bit narrow.

Mug up Mike , from central NH where it's in the 70's and no rain in sight. good fall goldenrod and aster flow, although no rain in the forecast could stop the nectar flow. Good pollen this year as well....Hope you don't get hit...
@MikeBarryBeesАй бұрын
Sounds like a great fall for you Brice! Winter is right around the corner!!
@gunlinebees.3831Ай бұрын
Got pollen patties built yesterday with peppermint candy and today will be 1:1 mix. I don't think we're going to have much, if any kinda fall flow in our neck of the woods. I would be nice not having to feed but... That's not the reality.
@MikeBarryBeesАй бұрын
Yea, especially as big a swarm as that one colony was and being this late. Feed will be a must. Maybe even some fondant or a sugar brick in winter.
@rodkirt9273Ай бұрын
Why don’t you dump the extra feeder water into a 5 gallon bucket instead of on the ground ?🤷♂️
@MikeBarryBeesАй бұрын
The amount is negligible as well as I don’t want to carry out a five gallon bucket. As far as dumping it in a feeder bucket, the hole is too small and would make a mess. It’s really not a lot, but with the wintergreen in it, I just like to flip it a few extra feet away.

Ratchet straps 👍🐝 just saying
@MikeBarryBeesАй бұрын
That would be forty to fifty straps…no thank you. Been thru a cat 2 with no straps and they did just fine with propolis. I do strap any of the ones that are prone to tipping off the stand, but not every stand or every hive.
