When you are new to Red Cherry Shrimp keeping, there is so much information, and misinformation, that it can be hard to know which is which.

I find having snails in with the shrimp ensures any excess food is eaten pretty quickly but the snails breed a bit faster than Id like.

I don't really have any set rules for feeding, I have a blended powder that has all the stuff my shrimp need and that combined with the bioilm seems to do well for my tanks and I have a high baby survival rate. The only ones I feed differently are the Red neocaridina as I feed them with astaxanthin and it really makes the red pop!

You can do either. Feeding after lights out helps if you have fish in the tank that eat all the food 👍🏻

I too love feeding Repashy. I currently feed Community Plus, which formula(s) of Repashy do you feed? And as you said, I like to rotate it with shrimp-specific, plant-based food.

I find it very hard to look at my shrimp and guage when to feed, so I prefer to keep them on a schedule. Shrimp aren't like fish, I can guage fish by their happy fatty bellies and know I'm doing a good job! Shrimp, not so much. Though I'm branching out more and more to shrimp only nano tanks so I guess I'm doing something right as my colonies keep growing. 😉

Hi, I've bought some evergreen aquatic compost and was wondering if it's safe to put in a shrimp tank please?

I’m am not familiar with that product. If it says ‘suitable for aquariums’ I would be tempered to try it. If it is designed for ponds (or very large water volumes) I would be less inclined as it may push your ammonia through the roof ☹️

Does the 1 to3 hr rule apply to fresh/blanched vegetables? I notice that always takes a very long time to consume even with the different types of snails I have. Thanks again, admire you and your work/channel! 💯

So I don’t feed a great deal of blanched vegetables. I find they make my water smell. However, if I did I think I would stick with a 3 hour max. If they aren’t consuming it in that time, try adding less. But as I say, I don’t really feed them to my shrimp 🤷🏻‍♂️

I have shrimp pellets. However, they're so small I wonder if the shrimp find it before it fouls the water. Even I can't see it once I put it in. I've got 6 shrimp and so according to the instructions I only need to put in 2 pellets. Other than that I feed the rice fish (juveniles) that are in the same tank, microworms. I'm wondering if that's OK?

I`m not able to feed them since I bought them... I have 4 ou 5 (they keep hidden most of the time). I have them for 9 months and they probably eat the biofilm and algae. When I try to feed them the guppies eat all the food from the plate. Do you have any food sugestion that they could eat and not the guppies?

Im having the same issue. I added 10 shrimp to my 29 Gallon tank that already had guppies, mollies and platys. I tried putting in algae wafers. The fish finish them so fast, even if i feed them first.

My best advice would be give them time. It takes 3 to 5 months for a Cherry shrimp to reach full maturity 👍🏻

If the tank is heavily planted and the plants look like they could use the boast of CO2, then I say go for it. Your shrimp won’t care either way 👍🏻

My shrimp colony has snails, guppies and fresh water clams on top of my substrate. Fresh water clams only burry themselves in your substrate when you neglect to add adequate food supply to include your clams needs too. - real world experience really pays dividends 🤔.

@FishKeepingAnswers . A tiny plastic cup with a wire handle and openings cut for a snail trap where they enter to eat a single piece of cat food with a few flattened glass marbles to hold it down. A toy fishing rod with a weight and toy grappling hook and lower it, let it soak for 8 hours, chase the shrimp away, and feed the snails to my goldfish and crawdads. Gets rid of snails, feeds shrimp, and fun to go fishing in the tank.
