I did a PPP loan for our church, we lost the ability to worship in person, in theory we should have reduced staff, but we used PPP to keep staff on payroll. After close to a year we started worshipping in person, only now, at the two year mark is attendance and charitable giving back to “normal”. I would argue the PPP was needed by many. The custodian, office assistant, book keeper would have been first to see hours cut or position eliminated, these are the most vulnerable financially. This was repeated by many PPP recipients. The downstream of these people getting paid was groceries, utilities, gas, rent, etc being paid. Would have been ugly without that program. Like all government programs you will find worthy who were excluded , as well as included who could have survived without.

Perhaps the federal government should not have taken the money from the people in the first place. Perhaps letting the people and the state of Minnesota determine how to take care of their own would be more cost effective. Somehow paying federal workers to take money from the people of Minnesota, then paying another group of federal workers, USDA to be so disconnected from the people of Minnesota that they pay for more meals that there are children, only then needing to enlist the support of at least three more federal government agencies, FBI, USPS and US Attorneys Office to have to work for months and months and months to find out that a portion of that money has been sent out of the country. I wanted to help and was looking for an organization I could donate to especially one helping children. Some thing told me to first look around me and I saw my neighbors with the only children on my block were home with the fathers. So when I went to Costco and BJS I started buying lunch products for the children. The moral of my story is someone on a fixed income could help 5 children with just lunch I can't imagine how many children could have actually been helped.

Typical that it takes thousands of hours and people to investigate this network of people to bring them to justice. However, seems to me all it should've taken was a couple of people from the government office dispensing the money (MED) to go to the feeding sites to see if kids were being feed. Had they done so, this should have been wrapped up in a couple of weeks, instead they wasted time (months) examining paperwork. But then again, we are talking about government workers who also need to stay employed doing something. Almost two years to check on kids being feed on a daily basis; this is a joke.
