Here is a funny one: I was just out of the academy and working with "Steve", a senior agent. We were in a jeep and flushed a crew of about 25 "wets" working in a field along the Rio Grande. They ran to the river and crossed and waited, lounging in the shade. We walked to our side of the river and were talking to them. They always wanted us to shoot for them, but "Steve" wouldn't oblige them by shooting at rocks for targets. One finally took his straw sombrero off and offered it as a target. It was about 30 yards across the river to the sombrero and Steve shot and kicked up dirt about six inches to the left of the sombrero, and then he missed by about a foot on the right side. I was new, but knew we could all shoot pretty well and looked at Steve and wondered what was going on. Steve said; "Get ready!" The wets were laughing at the misses and Steve told them the target was too big. One of the wets then jumped up, took his large Chihuahua silver belt buckle off and ran over and placed it as a target. Before he got all the way back to the others Steve centered it with a shot and when it hit the ground, I hit it on one side. The buckle owner screamed, but the rest of the wets were laughing so hard they were rolling on the ground. Some of them had seen Border Patrolmen shoot before and suspected what was going to happen. At the time, the BP qualified with a strong hand 10 shot round at 50 yards. The rest of the qualification was at 25 yards. @@frankhinkle5772

America's first semi-auto shotgun (John M. Browning of course). Have one myself and its great. For all of the "fan boys" the sheriff is talking about, the fight is in me, not the gun. I learned more from a recent instructor-level book than from any in-person class I have taken. "Beyond the Muzzle": The Firearms Instructor & Shooter Development Guide". Written by a retired police instructor for all instructors and defense shooters. Really leans into the law enforcement fight. A google search will find a hard copy with color graphics instead of the funky digital type.

Fantastic find on that shotgun. Ya know, I’ve got two pristine Ithaca 37s. Both have 26” IC barrels. One with ventilated rib, the other plain barrel. I got the ventilated rib one when I was 13 to hunt with. I got the plain barrel one a few decades ago just to cut back to 19” or so but talked myself out cuttin it down because of the condition and its relative value. These are real Ithacas too. Not the ones made after their difficulties they had in the late 80s. Your video inspires me to go ahead with transforming this plain barrel Ithaca into the gun I always dreamed of having. I want rifle sights mounted on mine and maybe drilled for screw in chokes. Great video!

The 870 Magazine Extension screws on to the M 11's threads but , when screwed all the way down, leaves a gap between the Extension and the Fore End. You can put some kind of shim on the Magazine Tube OR (like I did) simply shortened the Magazine Tube a bit till everything tightened flush.

Fixing the action was extremely simple, cost me nothing but a little time and a bloody knuckle. Other than the lack of a rib and front sight, mine looks a lot like yours, though a bit older. I have done a similar build with one of my rem model 11s. I will warn you, before you put a magazine tube extension on there, you MUST fabricate a pressure plate that will fit between the end of the wood hand guard and the back of the screw on magazine tube extension. notice how the factory tube end cap has a wide flange, that is not an accident. If you don't put something in place, the recoil mechanism will force the new mag tube extension through the front of the hand guard and then you will have to buy a new hand guard. good luck!

Cool old gun. At first glance, I thought it was an old Browning A5. I'd like to find an old A5 beater in a lighter gauge for a project like this, or a Daiwa would be fine. (When Browning sent A5 production to Japan, Daiwa produced their own A5 copy. I have one and it runs great.) Even a year after rotator cuff repair, 12 ga. loads other than light bird loads leave me with some shoulder soreness the next morning. At any rate, I'm onboard with a semi auto shotgun for home defense. I have ARs and other options, but a lifetime shooting trap and bird hunting has made shotguns my most comfortable and familiar platform. I enjoy the old style side x side coach guns and have a couple, but the 2 shot limit for home defense is a deal breaker. Thinking back to my time as an urban medic, I don't recall anyone staying in the fight after a shotgun hit. There's a lot to be said for multiple systems trauma with the chance of a CNS hit from a single shot sending multiple pellets. I'm baffled that some LE agencies have converted their shotguns to less lethal, and the infrequency of arriving back up departing their vehicle without a shotgun to face an armed subject. I can only speak for myself, but I think I'd be a lot more effective in a fast moving, run and gun scenario with a shotgun than an AR with a red dot. Cheers from Pettis County! Liked and subscribed.
