Can I hook mine up to a motion sensor light switch so that it only powers when motion detected or does it only power up from the power button on the app or remote

You just need to open the device and put it on your motion sensor. The color of the light changes with the rhythm of your movement without pressing any buttons.

Is the controller compatible with the WS2812B LED strip? And are the two LED strips you have set up have their own controller or are they connected together?

hello dear, Thanks for your questions.I'm Athena from shenzhen feican technology Co.,ltd(the manufacturer of this product) This controller is not compatible with WS2812B LED strips. For your second question, this app controller supports group control. It means two rolls LED strips can perform same with their own controllers.
