@@georgecartlidge2577 if it looks like that's all she's doing, then she's doing her job right. Dressage is a lot harder than just sitting and kicking. Sitting and kicking is for trail rides. The horse doesn't always know what comes next, and each of those "kicks" is a cue to perform a certain movement

I think the reason mares are rarer in high level competition is because when they show potential people are quick to retire them to breeding for as long as possible.

My mare is 19 and I have worked years to get her fit. She's in the best shape of her life. Geldings are fun, stallions are powerful, but mares, once they get to know you, can make an amazing life partner. I'm sold on them, even dealing with the heats is not bad, and my mare was very bad before. Mare person through and through! I am trying ti decide if I want to breed her once. She's older. But she has very good conformation over all. And do I want to spend the money? The foal would be a lifelong companion.

@Julya Flyer Look up "Ruffian", she was one of the first races against a stallion, you may not want to watch the footage of her last race though. She was lengths ahead of "Foolish Pleasure".. she had a ton of heart, and was very competitive, until her.. unfortunate accident...☹ my mum watched the race live on tv.. and was shocked.

This horse’s movement is just so open! I’d gotten so used to stiff movements in dressage that I’d forgotten what it was like to see a horse relaxing into its dance. You can tell when a horse is just doing what its rider is telling it to do, and when it’s really embracing the movement and partnership. Absolutely beautiful work of rider to provide that comfort, and great job of the horse to learn to embrace it.

The balance, transitions and suppleness are beyone exquisite. I hear so many times, 'the horse does all the work', what people see in that dressage ring is years of training a horse to understand the smallest of movements, a rider who spends time training a horse, while perfecting the art of making the smallest movements the untrained eye doesn't see. Years of understanding, training and heartbreak at times. Never in my lifetime will I see such a balanced, well polished performance such as this. As someone who once did some dressage I totally respect the hardwork and performance this talented lady has had to put in to get a grand prix horse to this standard. Those movements were perfection while keeping her horse balanced and engaged is absolutely a thing of beauty, and one I will never tire of watching.
