[Jarvis Cocker] A century How long is that? Three billion one hundred and fifty five million Nine hundred and seventy three thousand six hundred seconds Eight hundred and seventy six million hours Or thirty six thousand five hundred days Almost as long as one of those endless dark nights of the soul Those nights never end When you believe you'll never see the sun rise again And a single second feels like a century A century A century A century

Perfection! When I heard 'Pleasure' for the first time I thought it was one of the best tracks of the year. When I heard 'Century' for the first time I was sure it was the best track of the year. Great job as always. Can't wait for this new album.

I fought my feelings and got in the way Could've been easier than a decade of days Projection, young marriage, lighting the stage I wanted feelings, that got in my own way Then wrote that letter that had nothing to say Staccato vision like a kingdom of days All lonely, or not lonely, century away But still a vision as if help's on its way Someone who will lead you to someone Who will lead you to someone Who will lead you to the one At the end of the century The air is clearer a decade away Singing to a mountain that was empty all along All lonely, young marriage lighting the way She wanted feelings that got in her own way Someone who will lead you to someone Who will lead you to someone Who will lead you to the one At the end of the century Someone who will lead you to someone Who will lead you to someone Who will lead you to the one At the end of the century Someone who will lead you to someone Who will lead you to someone Who will lead you to the one At the end of the century Century. How long is that? 3, 155, 973, 600 seconds 876, 000, 000 hours Or 36, 500 days Almost as long as one of those endless dark nights of the soul Those nights that never end When you believe you'll never see the sunrise again When a single second feels like a century A century A century A century A century A century A century A century A century A century

The part that starts around 2:40 starts to sound a lot like Kaki King the way she piled up the vocals and whatever she used to make it sound that way. Hard to explain unless you know Kaki's music too...but I've listened to this and "get not high" so many times.

7.9/10: Opening with a what sounds like a Jazz band covering a post-punk song the buzzing percussive slaps reverberate and coalesce into bitter-sweet harmonies. The high tinny vocals start as a layer of frosting but as the song leads to the building scale progression they start seeping deeper and engulfing the mix like a melting chocolate fondue cake. It feels especially satisfying after the instrumental break and reintroduction of escalating motif with just the vocals. Excited to see what context this song will play on the album especially with expensive perfume commercial outro with backing vocals that sound like they belong in a Broadway musical. This song is the sonic equivalent of dark chocolate fondue cake.
