What is the meaning of the black colored lips and the black lines on the Prophet's face?? Im from the Caribbean so im not familiar with the marks

I think it's just village makeup. I've seen it used in other Yoruba movies, both on priests and non-priests alike and don't think it has a special meaning. The 3 lines on the prophet's cheek are tribal marks ("used to identify tribes of different hamlets and villages and also class and trade groups"). But I stand to be corrected/educated about this black pigment as well that is sometimes used on the entire face by Yoruba actors like Baba Suwe (who is lighter skinned in real life). FYI, I was born in Nigeria but raised in the USA, so not an expert.

The idea that the dark pigment used on the lips and on the face may possibly be for protecting the skin from the sun came from a documentary I saw on PBS years ago that showed Hausa people in the sunny North dipping into a bowl of the dark pigment and applying it on their entire faces.
