I was a student at the University of Lagos in the early 1980s, Fela's Shrine at Ikeja was a favourite haunt for me and several others like me. I visited the Shrine many times. Once I was wearing a t-shirt with PUBLIC ENEMY emblazoned on the front and Fela himself picked me out from the crowd and made some smart remark about my t-shirt while pointing at me. I don't remember exactly what he said, but this was the only personal interaction I ever had with him and I treasure that moment.

There is only one Fela Anikulapo Kuti. Nigeria will never see a master creative like this again. Nigeria has not witnessed another elevating mind like that of Fela. As a pikin born in the USA from Naija parents, who, listened to Fela and exposed it to me, it lead me to even question the mentality of my own parents. Many will be mesmerized by the sound. Only the true at heart will catch the message. Baba, you have set off my intellectual wit. I wish I could have met you. I was only 6 when Fela returned to the essence. I really wish I could met this man.

To think dat 9ja ve lost a legend an irreplaceable genius like Fela n his Mother Africa n d world r on d loose end. His mom Madame OluwaFunmilayo Kuti so smart & brave who fought 4 independence unity of Nigeria(9ja)1st woman to ve driven a car in Nigeria if not whole of Africa. Blessed woman wit gifted sons such as Fela who also fought 4 Democracy freedom Emancipation, equality of Black men/women n African unity. Dis same old thugs wicked ruthless Lazy rulers unfortunate bunch of cowards looters(same group of ppl never changed) All Thieves now deem it fit to kill an elderly, brilliant woman who paved ways to free 9ja frm colonial masters rule, dia only way to repay her, is to throw a 77yr beautiful elderly woman off 3rd floor window dat ultimately end her precious life. Pray those who preempt n carry out d orders ll never kno peace in dia lives ever n all of dia gens ll amount to nothing but Zero(0) as dey ve done to dis Kuti fams, d horror dey created n made dis fyn influential, woman of dignity, mother Africa go thru such agony so shall dia horrors b much more fragmented into billions n gazillions of pain n sorrows t/o dem lives & entire gens either Dead/Alive 4ever.

An absolutely unique documentary ! Thank you ! I have been listening Fela for 40 years and I have always tried to imagine how was that mythical African Shrine. Too bad the sound is so terrrible, but yet, it gives us an insight. And the music is great anyway. Thank you again, man !

I love this! I'm saddened that I was not able to go to one of Fela's concerts and to have never met him. Although I visited his Shrine soon after his passing - 2 or 3 weeks later. Wish I had met him :( I love FELA so! For some reason, lately I can't get enough of his music! MAFEREGUN EGUN! IBAE FELA!
