Nobody arranges horns like Fela. Amazing endurance and concentration.The inspiration is contagious. Timeless genius. Almost everyone sounds like an amateur next to Fela. His musical genius is under appreciated because the righteous message of Justice and Freedom is terrifying to the colonial mentality.

I'll bet. Just listening is an amazing treat to the ears but live would be crazy. I'm sometimes surprised at who was influenced and or/liked Fela. De La Soul made an album with a handful of songs that sampled Fela and it was called Fela Soul. Clever name and awesome to hear his music sampled and reworked. Love it. I can't understand how more people don't know him. I wish I could teach a high school or even a college class just on music. I wouldn't need a text book. I'd teach people about blues and jazz and how they morphed into funk and soul and how they morphed into hip hop/Rap and classic rock and eventually alternative. I would teach the class for free I love it so much. I wish I had a 3 hour block on the radio on Sunday evenings on the radio too. Limited commercials and let me play whatever I want. If I want to play a 45 min song then so be it. I go deep into the music world. The so called deep cuts on the radio are onky about an inch deep lol. They don't even know what a true deep cut really is.
@illitrait4 жыл бұрын
...the length of his pieces, @@erictalkington5674 - way too long to be radio-friendly (it didn't help that he was staunchly anti-establishment in every way). The majors tried to make him compromise on length, but Fela would rather die than dilute his music or message. Now we have the internet, radio isn't that important and people are finally discovering what absolute musical gems Africa has to offer. I locked on in the 1970s. Peace.

My country, Indonesia, is also a country with many islands and in each island many different tribes and faiths. Greedy monsters from other sides of the world have been trying to break us apart to get in and take what is ours. We are finally lucky enough to get a president that is smart and good. But greedy assholes that are still in the government and the dirty money folks behind them are still trying to create chaos or fear. Still using the same methods to make us hate each other. Fela's music and words are always giving us the strength and spirit to keep our guards up and always fight back as peacefully as possible. My friends and I fight with music. Not even shouting political messages, but through making platforms to show / making good alternative music (many times rooted in our own traditional music). All kinds of genres with all kinds of multi-generation audiences. And also through each of our everyday personal behaviour towards each other and others, as well as to mother earth. Thank you Fela Kuti! May your people have their true peace and prosperity in the near future.

That's a great idea ! ! ! This Afrobeat by the Black President instills BLACK PRIDE, and appreciation of black culture & perspectives in other ethnic groups. Jah Bless ! I particularly like the irreverent tone, & sense of humor. It's 'black humor' in a few senses. Bob Marley, The Prophet of 1Love, expresses himself more sweetly, like a gentle, loving poet. Fela is an insightful social critic & commentator.

Imams and bishops through the mosques and churches did in the past and they still do it today.
