@ebent24 the reason for doing this is because lower audio bitrates require less bandwidth and less processing meaning people with dial-up and pc's from 1998 can take advantage of this non-demanding format of lowresolution+lowbitrate. however, if the source is of high quality, high quality audio will not be available until you reach "480/720p" when the native formats of the original bitrates are present

@Capilee your mostly right it still depends on the original upload e.g. a upload with 720p or 1080p resolution but only 64bit or 128bit (gardage) audio. youtube may convert the audio bitrate but it doesn't actually make it better quality cause it was still low bitrate. if the audio was garbage to start with it won't really get better switching the resolution but if it was great quality it will make a difference thats all i was trying to say that it depends on the source apologies for confusion.
