We only get to see a glimpse of these people’s lives in the videos. I’m sure there’s a lot of communications and agreements behind the scenes that we don’t know. Her sister decided to go to China for a reason and their parents in Africa must know what is happening as well. I chose not to pass judgement on the process and trust that all families involved are aware of the situation. Felista loves and respects her sister so I’m sure she is not doing anything that her elder sister does not want. She respects her sister so I think she’s just trying to make the situation a little more manageable.

It must be remembered that,at some point in Tanzania,Felista,s mom ,encouraged Zheng or Lao Li to marry one of her daughters.Zheng,s response was that he is already married with one child. The mother could not have broached this subject if the dsughter/ daughters were deadset against it.They would have been tacit agreement amongst her daughters that they had to find " love" and she came along to China to do that.There is nothing negative about it if all parties are in agreement.We have to be cognisant of the differences in culture all around the world. Are things so bad in Tanzania that she needs to do this? Lao Li is young. Its older men who havent been able to find Chinese wives that look to be match made in this way with foreigners. She has to give up her culture and wont see her family often except her sister. She has to learn new language and adapt Chinese culture. Hope she is ready for that. Some can but not all . Also no hope of getting Chinese citizenship so there is some risk.

People Lawu (Felista’s older sister) came to China to meet someone for marriage. Did we all watch the same video. This was a first date, after which numbers were exchanged. They will communicate on phone and visit each other from time to time to see how they really feel about each other. If they end up liking each other to want to get married, then the gentleman and Lawu (and probably Laoli and Felista) will go to Tanzania to get permission from her parents (as mentioned in the video).

There is an ‘old world’ charm to this. Families meeting families for that first encounter-compatibility is not just between the potential couple. This is a very humble, rural community. I think it's actually bottom 20% of China's wealth. But there are also features that every rural African should be able to appreciate - the sense of community, mutual help, family values, etc. There is a language barrier, but the cultural barrier is lower than you might imagine. So I feel this is a lot more healthy than some mail order bride just desperate to get a US green card.

Lawu is so shy, it's adorable. The guy seems to be a great person, he can cook and good with Fei Er and Dou Dou (just see his interactions with both the kids). I hope this works out. I think the initial meeting went great, as the other family had a positive impression with Felista and Dou Dou & Fei Er being adorable and won them over with their charm. Hopefully Lawu learns some more Mandarin so she doesn't have to depend on Felista too much.

Buen día Phillys, Lao y Shao... Ahora comprendo por qué viajó Lawu a China. Parece que ésto se acordó allá en Tanzania y tiene el visto bueno de la mamá de ellas. No lo veo tan mayor 39 años, se ve que hizo todo lo posible por impresionar a Lawu, cocina muy bien, tiene su ganado de vacas, chivos, corderos y lo principal que sus padres la aceptan. Lawu tiene 27 años es mayor a Phillys (22) y es una muy buena chica, filial con sus padres y hermanas. Espero que todo les salga bien y sean felices como lo es Phillys con su esposo. Both the man and Lawu are considered old in their respective countries to be single. China doesn't have enough women as there is a sex preference for boys. Many women in villages go to the city and work there. Now a lot of women and young people no longer want to work on the farms. I don't know if this has changed since unemployment in the cities are so high now. Men in the villages have to look elsewhere or be inventive. I think this blind date family likes Feli, maybe talked to her about it before going back. Feli is extremely hard working and helped her family. These are all very good traits for a daughter in law on a farm. Lawu was aware of this and perhaps agreed in Tanzania. Feli married for better opportunities and so is Lawu. Her marriage has helped her whole family back in Tanzania.

Feli. My mum was also a Tanzanian from Igoma near mwanza. She was married to a kenyan. She learnt the local language and they loved each other dearly until their last days.
