Keith, as you can see from her neighbor's question, asking her what the black thing is and from grandpa's expression that it isn't something that they eat. They were just being polite by going along with Felista. It's same as how Felista used dirt to cook the chestnuts in a recent vlog. In ancient times, China probably did use dirt to bake stuff, but not since some time ago now. The people in that village don't eat locusts, but Felista does. So in one vlog, she fried up some locusts. But people in that village don't eat locusts. It's because Felista eats locusts in Tanzania. She's taking her customs along with her to China, which is fine. But she should keep in mind that they are going along with her just to be polite.

Chinese do eat it as does much of indochina. It is an Asian delicacy not african. It is usually used in soups and stir fry. Grandpa checked it because it has the potential to be toxic. Her friend recognized it by a different name. You can look up nostoc algae, fat choi and see for yourself. Don't just go with someone else's judgement and or opinion.😮 Because it is rural China some may not be as familiar or may know it by another name, like her friend. Also Felista washed hers multiple times to remove the jelly and she boiled it before creating her bun filler. It is popular and very expensive in lunar new year dishes.

To those asking about Lawu, let me tell you that this vlog is NOT about Lawu. It is Felista's vlog. Lawu came to marry and settle down in China. Prior to her coming to China, she was not in the vlogs at all and suddenly everyone is missing her? Give her some space as she will be getting married soon. There's a lot of preparation to be done. Clothes, beddings, guest list, food etc. Paperwork to be done as she a foreigner marrying a Chinese man. She's also spending time with her husband to be and his family. Once she's married, she has her own life to live. She may appear once in awhile but for all you know, her future husband's family may not like or feel comfortable appearing in the videos. Not everyone is willing to be filmed and appear on social media. I am sure Lao Li has to get the permission of the people he is filming before uploading his videos.

【查考維基百科】 地耳为蓝藻门念珠藻科植物葛仙米（Nostoscommunevauch）的藻体，又名地木耳、地见皮、地踏菜。生长范围很，适应性很强。色味形俱佳，口感甚佳。似木耳之脆，但比木耳更嫩；如粉皮之软，但比粉皮为脆，润而不滞，滑而不腻，有一种特有的爽适感。食用方法很多，可炒食、凉拌、馏、烩、作羹等。 简要介绍 地耳，学名叫“普通念珠藻”，别名很多，有的地区称作地软、地木耳、地皮菜、野木耳、地见皮、地钱、岩衣，也有人称作天仙菜、绿菜等；《本草纲目》上叫“地踏菰”，《养小录》中称“地踏菜”，《野菜博录》谓“鼻涕肉”；还有个富于诗意的名字，叫“葛仙米”。据《本草纲目拾遗》解释：“晋葛洪隐居乏粮，采以为食，故名葛仙米”。但一般人都把葛仙米混同为地耳，实际上真正的葛仙米却与地耳同类而不同种。葛仙米生活在水田中，十分稀有珍贵，其价值千倍于地耳。每公斤国际市场售价1200~1500元人民币。除非洲有产而外，国内湖北鹤峰县有出产。地耳还有个怪名叫雷公屎，因其出现在雷雨之后，故名。还因为它是在河滩或山坡草地里生长出来的，故又称草耳。它生于地上，形似木耳，色似木耳，故谓之地耳。虽肉质比木耳薄，朵形比木耳小，味道不如木耳，但却是一种营养丰富、充满山野风味的佳蔌。　　 生物习性 地耳是真菌与藻类结合的一种共生植物。其结构非常简单，分不出根、茎、叶，也无花无果，和海带、紫菜一样，同是一种蓝藻类植物。地耳属蓝藻门、念珠藻目、念珠藻科（Nostocaceae）、念珠藻属。它是依靠细胞分裂来繁殖的。身体由许多细胞连成的念珠状群体，缠绕在一个共胶质鞘中，不规则的集合成肉眼可见的珠状（如葛仙米）、片状（如地耳）、发状（如发莱）植物体。地耳幼年植物呈球状，为实心，长成后扩展成为皱褶片状，为空心，有时边缘不规则开裂，宽者可达数厘米，呈绿蓝、橄榄绿、褐绿、黄绿等色。湿润时很薄、胶质。在干旱地方，它会皱缩休眠（能休眠70-80年久）。地耳多生长在潮湿土壤上，夏秋季常见。　　 分布范围 地耳在全世界都有分布。夏秋阴雨连绵，是地耳生长的旺季。在陕南秦巴山区和陕北黄土高原的河滩沙石地或荒坡野岭中，一簇簇、一朵朵黑里透绿的鲜地耳，有的从草根里长出来，有的软软铺在地上，犹如用水浸泡过的木耳，水灵灵，嫩生生，肥润脆滑，有铜钱大小。抓紧时机，及时拾捡，一会儿就是一篮子。可是太阳出来一晒，地上茶绿肥润的地耳，便会干缩得很小，人们就不便采捡了。捡回的鲜地耳，要及时用清水将里面的泥沙、碎草、杂物漂洗干净，晾干，便可保存起来，像木耳那样随吃随泡。 营养价值 地耳是一种营养价值很丰富的野生美味。它含蛋白质、糖类、矿物质、维生素、蓝藻素及钙、磷、铁等各种营养成分。尤其含钙特多，每500克含钙2000多毫克，在蔬莱中极为少见；含蛋白质高于黄豆卜碳水化合物高于许多蔬菜，提供的热量也相当可观，1个成年人1天需热量3000多卡，吃1公斤鲜地耳即可满足需要。此外，还含有肝糖等成分。在营养价值方面，它同木耳、发菜不相上下，比木耳甚至更强一些。地耳的利用前景广阔，现代科学工作者，还在探索其在宇航食品中的价值。　 食用价值 在食用菌王国，地耳虽没有黑木耳、银耳那样名贵，然而古往今来，它是人们特别是乡间人喜爱的美食， 堪称席上奇馔。它味鲜，有特殊的香味。地耳入馔，可以凉拌、热炒、熘烩、作汤、作馅，可荤可素，味道均佳。地耳以鸡汤下食，滑脆鲜美，味佳甘香，为山蔬第一；以精猪肉烹炒，鲜透齿颊，满口生香，尤其用鸡汤汆之，更是味盖参汤。著名的“陕西四色包子”，就是用猪肉、大油、白糖和地耳四种佐料作馅。历来与天津狗不理包子；上海水煎包、扬州蟹黄包子并驾齐名的“陕西地软包子”，里面的馅，就是以地耳为主料，配以豆腐、大葱、加香油、姜末、花椒及盐、味精做成的。陕西传统名菜“醪糟醅烩葛仙米”，就是用地耳与醪糟醅烩成的，它曾是宴席上不可缺少的佳肴。 地耳还是平民代粮渡荒的恩物。清代王磐编纂的《野菜谱》中，收录了滑浩一首歌词《地踏菜》曰：地踏菜，生雨中，晴日一照郊原空。庄前阿婆呼阿翁，相携儿女去匆匆。须臾采得青满笼，还家饱食忘岁凶。”这首歌谣记述了地耳救荒的情景。可见，地耳自古以来，就是饥年重要渡荒的天然野蔬，不知拯救了多少劳苦大众，是大自然恩赐之宝，它为人民立下了不可磨灭的功绩。 地耳还含有固氮酶和叶绿素，能将空气中的游离氮素，固定成为农作物氮素以吸收的有机氮；固氮酶死后的遗骸又能迅速分解，释放出大量的氮，大大提高土壤肥力，地耳真可谓功劳不小。 药用价值 地耳不仅是我国菜肴中的特产原料之一，而且自古入药。地耳性寒、味甘，有滋阴润肺，清热收敛，益气明目等多种功效。《名医别录》记述，它可以“明目益气，令人有子”；《本草纲目》称地耳“明目益气，有清热解毒之功效”；《日华子本草》云，地耳“久食益气，至老不改”；《药性考》曰：地耳“清神解热，痰火能疗”、“久食色美，益精悦神，至老不毁’；《粤西偶记》说它“解热清膈，利肠胃”；《太平圣惠方》也云：地耳“养血、止血、养胃、清心”；《粤志》也有地耳“润肌童颜”的记述。现代的《陕西中草药》、《秦巴山区天然药物志》、《四川中草药志》等也有类似记载。民间常用来治夜盲、烫火伤、丹毒、皮疹赤热、久痢脱肛、痔疮等症。如鲜炒常食，可治夜盲和牙痛；以白糖浸泡凉食，能医脱肛；与糯米、鸡汤熬粥，补血益气；用其焙干研末调菜油外敷，可治烫火伤。现代药理研究也证明：地耳用于食疗，功效卓著。
