This gives me "little women" vibes so badly. One of my favourite books. While listening this I can imagine myself performing this piece for my family. It's year ~1850. It's cold outside, just a few days till christmas. My sisters are sitting on the floor in front of the old fireplace and mum is knitting. Dad is writing at his desk and we all are so happy and thankful. This is so amazing that I feel all of this just trough this piece. How can music be so wonderful sometimes?

The power of classical music(which I often call philosophical music) is that the best pieces possess such profound spiritual concept and sublime inspirational origins as to readily access the corresponding best of our spirits and minds. This, of course, is in no way limited to the classical music genre but contrariwise is so expansive as to embrace all musical expression that has its roots in the same golden sublime vein. The more I live the more I grow to understand the beauties and glories of this preeminent art form and how God-like it truly is. When approached and received with reverence and respectful awe It ennobles us wonderfully. PWG

There are indeed classical pieces, who are so profound and transcendent, that they seem to answer philosophical questions. Beethovens last three piano sonatas or Mahlers 2nd Symphony jump immediately to my mind(of course there are many more). Unfortunately this beautiful piece of music by Mendelssohn is no such piece. It is with no doubt a masterful composition, but it doesn't have enough content to be called philosophical. I am sorry if I interpreted to much into your words, have a nice day :)

Thank you for the education. I've heard snippets of this piece at rock concerts! Jon Lord, late keyboard player with Deep Purple and Whitesnake, played the first eight notes of this with both bands. 🙂 Mendelssohn excelled at these short pieces as well as symphonies. War March of the Priests is another - and Hark, the Herald Angels Sing, of course.

I feel that i hate and love this piece at the same time. I never felt like this to other pieces. I think it's because this piece gives me comfort, when i listen to this, i feel i'm in a cozy room, in the winter, at 6:00 am, with that cold wind entering from the window, while i'm eating bread (i love bread), and i always felt this feeling when i was 6-9 years old, it was so cool, to play some games, with that cozy and cold feeling in my room, with the window half closed to make the lighting and atmosphere perfect. And now, the last days, i'm finally feeling this again, eating something, at 6:00 am, with a cold winter wind, but i don't have time to relax :/
