Korean is hard af 😭😂but it’s very fun to learn. I think Felix has really excelled in his Korean studying. In just a few years he’s so fluent. About how he feels he learns; everyone learns differently, especially when it comes to languages. It’s okay if someone learns at a slower pace. It’s also wayyyyy easier for a young child to learn another language than a young adult-adult, so it’s only natural.
@heavenswheel33883 жыл бұрын
this! Also, it depends on what languages ur familiar with. Learning Korea would definitely be difficult for an English speaker since the sentence structures are completely different. Ive been having less of a hard time learning Korean since I also know a language that has a very similar structure, but I couldn't for the life of me master French. We all have our strengths and weaknesses for different tasks.
@kellynemecek58943 жыл бұрын
@@heavenswheel3388 very true! Even though there’s a surprising amount of English words used in Korean, the sentence structure is beyond different, so it’s difficult. When I see how well Felix has done with his Korean, it makes me feel more inspired/motivated with mine. 😌

I was learning Japanese in Highschool and found the pronounciation and Hiragana easy. Katakana was a little confusing.. ( I still remember a lot of it, despite not using it for years) I really struggled with the sentence structure and katakana/kanji. I'm trying to learn Korean, and I find the pronounciation difficult. Hangyul is ok, but a little confusing. I'm pretty sure Japanese and Korean sentence structures are the same? (if so, I'm going to be struggling again) whereas when I was doing a little bit of German, I found the sentences were almost the same as English just with gendered differences, and the alphabet is basically the same. I feel like everyone struggles with different parts of languages, and it really depends on what your first language is.

how to get started learning korean 1. Learn hangul 2. Learn basic vocabulary 3. Sentence structure and phrases 4. Listen to your favrouit kpop group and read the hangul lyrics while listening. The first 3 are correct. But I don’t reckon resorting to K-pop to get used to grammar since it’s not realistic. Stick to textbook and beginner podcasts till you’re intermediate, you can’t scatter your knowledge like that as a beginner. As someone who’s learning Korean, here’s my personal suggestion: Learn the vowels and consonants first. Korean characters are made up of a simple set of sounds and they’re relatively easy to memorize. Once you have that down, you can pretty much read and write the language. The next part is learning phrases, which I do with self studying and flash cards (you can also learn with professional language apps such as lingodeer for more accuracy, cause there’s the formal vs informal system). Since you’ll already know how to read Korean, memorizing these phrases should be relatively easy. Especially if you begin picking up patterns, like 나는 (informal)/저는 (formal) meaning “I am” and how they’re used in sentences. Make sure to also immerse yourself in it. A lot of people say to watch kdramas or listen to Kpop songs to help, and while it certainly does, it’s not just about listening- it’s also about paying attention to how words are used. Another good idea is finding someone who knows Korean and learn some of the language from them, even get direct assistance for pronunciation or grammar. Up front interaction is always a good thing with learning a new language because it puts you in more realistic scenarios. Lastly, the internet in this case is your friend. Despite the false information all over it, if you want to know something like “is this formal or informal”, honorifics, and other stuff, searching online isn’t a bad option. So good luck to anyone who wants to attempt Korean, and remember to be patient, because learning anything takes time. Btw, if you guys want some free online course material, I’d suggest TTMIK (Talk To Me In Korean). It’s pretty specific and explains everything through pdf, podcast, and KZbin videos. One final addition (this is getting pretty long lol), if you want an interactive app, since it may be hard to find someone fluent in Korean to talk with, I recommend Teuida. It also has guided lessons and is really good at honing your pronunciation, not to mention it puts you in real life scenarios. Unfortunately, it does require payment, so that option is also kind of barred.

I can relate to Felix on such a personal level. I grew up learning really slow and other kids would make fun of me. So I thought I was stupid and didn’t apply myself in school. Then my dad told me it’s not about the speed in which you learn, but the effort you take to learn it. So from there I decided to work hard and be patient with myself and now I enjoy school. Basically the moral of the story is everyone learns at different speeds and just because it takes you longer it doesn’t mean you are dumb. Humans are all different in our own way so that’s what makes us unique

We should never rush through the process and work at the pace that is best for us. Gradually, it will all start to get better. Plus, learning languages or learning such stuff is never easy so we need patience and consistency to make progress. It will take long but it will happen if we work for it. I am 12 and starting to learn Korean. It is obviously hard but fun at the same time BECAUSE I am taking it slow and enjoying the process. Learning should always be fun.

Once I got to college (where we weren’t tested every chapter, but twice a semester instead), I aced the tests. In high school I wasn’t understanding the material until we moved on to the next chapter! He can be a slow learner all day long…it’s not like that impacts his stage performance - what makes Felix special is his dedication, his natural talent and his charisma.

I thought korean was easy at the start... now i am two years, two levels into it and it'getting more and more difficult to keep up with major studying and driving learning are piling up And the thing is Felix is incredible example of a person WHO DID THIS🎉 being in much more stressful situation. So I'm not gonna give up on my korean, even if speaking fluently will take years!!!

That’s actually a good point “excepting you’re a slow learner” I’m not learning korean but I think this will help me learning math since im really bad at it and get anxiety from it..

I feel the same way towards math, and I wish I could offer some advice for dealing with it, but unfortunately I cannot. Just know that there is someone out here that believes in you! Just remember to breathe whenever you start to feel the anxiety set in

Hearing Felix talk about how to learn a language or anything in general can be difficult and saying that it's okay to be a slow learner and do things your own pace is very comforting. I understand what he's saying and it does help to accept that not everything will be easy and it's okay to take things slow when you can

As someone who is currently learning Korean, something I’d recommend is 100% to FIRSTLY, learn the alphabet (한글) Hangul is VERY easy to learn and is definitely one of the most important things in Korean. Next, I’d recommend that you start learning some common words. For example: “안녕/안녕하세요/ 안녕하십니까” Which mean hello, or thank you, which is “감사합니다/고마워/고마워요/고맙습니다”etc. Remember to learn not just one specific formality, because all of them will be VERY IMPORTANT. Keep in mind that Korean isn’t easy, but when you think about it, every language isn’t going to be easy. I think of learning Korean as walking up on a staircase-each step is something new you accomplished. Also, one thing you need to keep in mind of is Koreans grammar order. In English, it goes in while in Korean it goes in the order. So if you were to say - “I love you” it would be in order like “I you love”. Some things that I recommend you to use is an app called “HiNative”. This app really goes for any language you’re trying to learn, whether it’s Japanese, English, Korean, and so on, it’s really useful for me. You can ask NATIVES questions about Korean and they’ll help you-whether it’s about translating something, asking for a native to recorrect your sentence you wrote, or even trying to figure out if your pronunciation is good, you can learn a lot! I find it to be the most effective way that I have learned Korean among all the apps I’ve tried. I also suggest that you use “Teuida” which helps with your pronunciation, and in my opinion it’s very fun to use! One other thing I’d like to say is that when you’re deciding on why you’re learning Korean, or any language in general, in order to enjoy learning a language, you need to want to learn it. Because if you’re learning it without any desire to do so, you’re not going to go anywhere. Learn a language because you want to. Usually when I lose motivation, I think about times where I felt proud of myself for learning something, like the time I got a sentence correct, or when I spelled something right, those moments make me feel like I have taken one step further in learning Korean, and in order to feel that proudness again, I need to learn more. I find myself actually looking forward to learning Korean, which I haven’t felt before when learning a lot of languages. So one thing that speeds up the process in my opinion is just plainly having that desire to learn. To anyone who is learning Korean, you’ve got this! I hope that you’ll someday become fluent! And just know that we are in this together! 화이팅! 🤗🌷

it takes me forever to learn things like choreography :') it makes me feel better to hear that being slow doesn't mean you can't be good at something if you approach it the right way for your brain, and show yourself compassion

Felix is very reflective. I did hope to hear more about learning Korean as I am starting that journey myself. I have had success with learning languages. I seem to have the skill. However, I am finding Korean difficult, and I wonder if it is because the other languages I've learned are European. Korean is quite different, so maybe that's why it's difficult. However, I'm also stubborn. If I plan to learn something, I will no matter how difficult or how long it takes me. I'm just absorbing tips right now to find the easiest way since I am teaching myself.

Omg everything that he said really hit home, slow learner, confidence, embarrassment, comparing myself to others. I have always felt stress whenever I notice I’m behind, but after listening to him, I’m definitely taking his words into consideration and be more patient with myself.
