Every generation of boxing has a character like Mayorga. A tough guy with a big personality who is dangerous enough to take seriously, strong enough to put on a great show, skilled enough to occasionally pull a shock upset, but just short of elite. LaMotta, Shavers, Barkley, Mercer, Kirkland, El Chino, etc. Always a joy to watch.

Electric night! Tito was on top of his game. His last great performance. Something to consider with Tito. Yori boy Campas, Oscar de la hoya, David Reid, Fernando Vargas, Oba Carr, were all undefeated before facing Trinidad. Whitaker had never been beaten decisively, before Trinidad. Hacine Cherefi had never been blown out and Mayorga (other than his pro debut) nor Joppy had been decisively beaten before Tito got ahold of them. He practically ruined alot of those guys career. They were never the same and began losing AFTER facing Tito. He was a helluva fighter Felix. One of my all time favorites.

Mayorga came from a rough background, being in a gang on the slums of Nicaragua. What he accomplished was nothing sort of miraculous. He was in some of the biggest fights against some of the best prize fighters the sport has ever seen, yes he lost all of them but he stood in the grandest of stage when people like him shouldn't have even made it past 20 years old. He was in the truest of sense a brawler, and brawler types in order to be succesful have to get their opponents to not box them or fight them but to brawl with them in order to win, He did it succesfully against Vernon Forest (rip), hence why he did all these crazy tactics and trash talk all to get his opponents to brawl with him in order to give himself a chance to win.

Tito is the best welterweight I’ve ever seen. He walked into every fight going for a knockout from beginning to end. I don’t think he would’ve ever lost a fight if he stayed at welterweight. I just wish he waited like 2 years before moving up so he could’ve fought Floyd at welterweight. I’m glad he snatched Reid and Vargas’ titles at 154 though. Castillejo’s scary ass ducked him otherwise he would’ve had all three major belts at 154. Just like James Paige ducked him at welterweight. Vernon Forest,before getting a belt,ducked him too;Tito could’ve been his first title shot though.
@nathangonzalez54775 жыл бұрын
He would have stayed if he could. He just couldn’t make the weight anymore. He only stayed to get the Oscar fight. He would have been long gone if not for that. He actually took a tune up fight at 154 against Troy Waters anticipating a fight with Terry Norris for the 154 pound title.
@Tone75804 жыл бұрын
Raul Ramirez I’ve seen many especially Oscar’s fight with Tito and Tito took rounds 1,2,&4 right away no debating. After Oscar taking 3,5,& 6 which rounds did he win???? Remember youngin, he needed 7 or better to win. Keep in mind, we know Tito took the last 4 with ease and I feel split 7&8, but what say you. Mind you I’m a guy that can give you the time stamp of the punch that made Oscar start running for the rest of the fight. PS: that time stamp was in a round Oscar actually won though.
@raulramirez96572 жыл бұрын
@@Tone7580Oscar took the 9th, Tito took the last three based only on Oscars running. Out of the early rounds, he took maybe the 4th. 1 and 2 Oscar still edged out. 8-4 Oscar, maybe 7-5 at the very least. Tito got a gift period. The likes of Ike Quartey and Vernon Forrest would have a very good chance at beating him too since Tito wouldn’t be enjoying the huge size advantage he had on pretty much all his opponents at 147lbs and those guys both had excellent jabs which was one of Tito’s main kryptonite. Mosley also had a great chance at beating him.
@Tone75802 жыл бұрын
@@raulramirez9657 Hell no Oscar didn't take round 2!!! Round 1 was close so I won't argue as hard,but 2 was easily Tito's. 9 was easily Tito's too. Lolol, Vernon Forest was in hiding till Tito left the division, that's when he finally started fighting real opponents. Mosley never moved to welterweight until Tito left either. They would've got knocked out easily by Tito, especially Forrest. Mosley would've tucked tail and ran after the first left hook. Tito wasn't gifted anything. De La Hoya felt that big left hook in the 6th round which he won by the way, and took off on his bicycle for the rest of the fight.

Mayorga was still good despite his lifestyle outside of the ring. With the right trainer & dedication he could have been one of the best ever.
