Every time I think Felix has come up with the last best trick/hack/DIY he surprises yet again. And finding that pulling back the phillips eliminates having to file off the hump... BRILLIANT, and the ferro holder from the twig... he just keeps outdooing himself LOL

Not only does it eliminate filing it, but it improves it and turns it into a holder. Literally turned the weakness into a strength

I think Victorinox need to do a little bit more inventing. They could make like some sort of a larger hole where you could fit a decent fire steel that could screw in. It could have threads and could be a little bit more significant and they could call it, the Victorinox survivor or something like that. Tell me they wouldn’t sell 10 million of those things. Are they afraid of money or something?

What an awesome way to store the rod! Another method which will assist with sparking, and will work with this improvised handle method, is to line up the steel and blade against the tinder, but, rather than scraping the blade down the steel, hold the blade in its position, do not move the blade, but pull *the steel* backwards towards you... It keeps the sparks in a controlled position against the tinder, and prevents the blade from accidentally 'snuffing them out'... 👍👍👍👍

Wow, I really appreciate your content. Your idea inspired me to make a fat wood fire starter in the same way. Carve out a groove from a piece of fat wood and just press the ferro rod into the groove and scrape the fatwood from one side and scrape the ferro rod from the other! Making it right now.

Best 111mm ever made Was the discontinued OUTRIDER till 2017 with gray button slider lock. Put a word with Ibach Headquarter to get it back in production with pencil and ballbearing in the middle of handle and eventually a fire-steel rod. Moreover, the thumb stud leap for one hand opening like in Swisstool could be a useful variant. New Model STORMRIDER.

Happy Friday Maestro Felix, thanks for another useful tip. As it happens all my EDC rotation 111mm SAK's are corkscrew models - Alpiner ( Liner Lock), Picnicker ( Slide Lock ) a Nomad & a Garant ( both Liner Lock) Rucksack ( Slide Lock ) Forester ( Liner Lock ) and I also have a 111mm Outrider & a 130mm RangerGrip 79 ( holding them both unused for emergency use). I have on all of them either a Firefly rod in place of the toothpick & a tinder spiral on the corkscrew held down by the mini-screwdriver or the Fire Ant & Tinder combo on the corkscrew

After I watched your video, I basically did the same thing with a long Firefly, inserted alongside the Phillips head driver on my one-handed SAK , with saw. I already replaced the toothpick with a long Firefly. I have the knife in a soft nylon sheath. Attached to the lanyard ring is a Photo Freedom ( yellow lamp), mounted backwards in its neck carrier to protect it and cover the switch against accidental turn-on. Then I covered the light with a small Ranger Band, which acts to cover the lamp and could be extra Fire tinder. I tried to put the second Firefly in place of the tweezers, but the handle opening was too small. Also attached to the lanyard ring is a Medium size Bison Tube Whistle . Extra glue added to plastic piece in the whistle and about 6” of Super 88 electrical tape wrapped to the cyclinder ( gives me some repair tape and could be fire tinder. Finally two pieces of prepared compressed tinder ,wrapped in Saran Wrap and over wrapped with electrical tape, lie at the bottom of the sheath. It’s a good belt carried backup kit for hiking.
