I Make coffee every single day and have been using the same Moccamaster for over 10 years with just one small problem, the filter basket switch broke, so had to get a new filter basket for $20 or $30. The Moccamaster is built incredibly well to last many, many years. If you drink coffee every day and will have the same coffee maker for many trouble free years the initial cost of $350 over the years you use it is really a small investment for great coffee for years.

This was SO helpful for someone looking for competent performance for French press, pour over, and espresso! I'd narrowed down to a list of 3 grinders, but as you mentioned about the math involved, I'm not the science-focused coffee drinker. So many reviews I've watched harp on the precision aspect which I just don't have time for almost ever. To have freshly ground beans, consistency for my couple main brewing methods, and easy cleanup - I'm sold.

I just got mine thanks to your review. I found that if you move the lid up and down after a grind, it acts as a bellow to blow out any retention.

Excellent and honest review! As a novice coffee drinker and enthusiast, I just purchased this grinder and can’t wait to use it.🙌🏽

Over the past few months I've been deciding between the Opus, Encore ESP, and a couple others at similar price points and I jumped at the Opus once they released it in matte white a couple weeks ago. I'm newer to espresso so I couldn't justify spending 2,3,4 times the price of this grinder on something I feel I haven't earned yet but most reviewers of the Opus echo the same positives: Value, minimal grind retention, anti-static, versatility and VALUE😂 Works for me. Maybe I'll grab a eureka mignon or whatever the new niche killer is in a few years but for now I'm thrilled with my Opus.

Would love to know if you’re still happy with the Opus a year later? Between this and the Encore ESP

Great review! I've had mine for about a month and love everything about it to use with my Moccamaster! My question is have you come to the sweet spot for the grind setting for the Moccamaster? I've been pretty happy with the 6 setting you recommend starting at in the video but would love to hear if you've found a better setting.

I have been seeing after market bellows for both machines. Not sure how well they work...

I know this is probably a bad comparison, I have the Rancilio Rocky burn grinder, but I’ve never owned any higher end burr grinders. I scored a deal on this one for like $120, does the opus provide similar performance? Or worse then it?

Excellent video very informative. I have decided to try and grind my own beans. I just started to looking and have found a Breville Smart Pro, Oxo Conical, and this. Now I’m really confused. I can’t use a hand grinder. I almost exclusively brew Aeropress. Thanks for your help.

Put the Baratza ESP on your list. It was between that this and the smart grinder Pro and I was going to go with the SGP but there were no sales when I bought my machine and I ended up just biting the bullet after saving my money for several years and buying a Niche Zero for an end game, all in one grinder (was jumping into espresso myself). This seems a bit more of a hassle than the Baratza IMHO but I like this look better. There are quite a few aftermarket modifications on Etsy for the SGP though like a single dose hopper and bellows if that interests you. It's mostly just me and I don't go through enough coffee to be leaving it out in a hopper so single dosing just makes sense for me. Good luck

Also, I'd take the OXO off the list and check into the Solis Scala Zero if you're not looking to get into non pressurized portafilter espresso. The OXO isn't at all good for any kind of fine grinding, strictly brew and I believe it has ceramic "crushers" not true cutting burrs (might be confusing a different model)

New to your channel, thank you for the detailed review, enjoyed it. I currently have Wilfa Svart, which I had for a 2 years. I'm thinking it's time to upgrade and was wondering if Opus would be a noticeable difference in your opinion? My daily brew is a v60 or an aeropress, but I'm planning to get into espresso down the line. Thanks

Obviously it's a completely different price point, but in terms of results, how would you say this compares to the Baratza Vario?

Hey I have a question as I need some help. I have bought this for espresso and haven’t been able to find the right grind size. I got a decent shot on 2,3 and then I went to 3 and it was choking. I am using a delonghi Dedics as a machine

Would the Opus be an upgrade from the Encore with the original m3 burrs?
@Coffeehaus Жыл бұрын
The encore just released the ESP. If you liked the encore and want to able to have a wider range of grind sizes, it’s down to this vs the ESP. Review coming soon…

is the life longevity gonna be good tho? seems like a nice special machine but will it last me more than 5-7 years

Only time will tell. There are definitely grinders similar to this that have lasted many many years. there are some other options we will be posting next month that I think Are more robust.

@@Coffeehaus would you say this Opus can make a consistent french press grind? ive had a Capresso for years and just looking for a new grinder that can give me a pretty clean french press

@@Coffeehaus 🤔 hmmm might be worth a try. i like that its tiny and minimalist style. i suppose anything a step up from the Capresso should do well for me for a while.. thanks for your quick feedback!

@@Coffeehaus But what if I had Ode 2 burrs (even if i installed Ode 2 burrs in an old Ode original machine) - would that definitely give me more uniform better coarse grind than the Opus? im not concerned with espresso grind right now. i just like the simplicity and size and look of the Fellow grinders and i just need better immersion brewing results.
