To me it's misleading to say that it doesn't have enough adjustability for espresso, when there's a micro adjustment feature which is not mentioned.

Its mentioned at the beginning, but the way its described seems like the feature is misunderstood.

As an Opus owner I too am disappointed you did not mention/use the inner adjustment ring. I think it was a grievous omission since you made a major point as to its inability to fine tune the grind. Up until that segment, however, I did find the review correctly detailed compared to my personal experience with the Opus. Do I trust any other reviews' thoroughness?

How have the inner ring adjustments worked out for you? Can you dial in your shots well? I found this great explanation of the inner ring adjustability, I personally think I should be able to do the adjustments although it is a bit to wrap your head around how it works. kzbin.info/www/bejne/lX7Ie5d3fcyljbM I'm between the Baratza Encore ESP and OPUS. I like the OPUS design, quiet noise, and less mess/clumping. I am worried about the lack of ability to dial in though. I'm only going to be using a Breville Bambino Plus. I do want that adjustability to some degree. Thanks a ton for any info you can provide me!

@@lukewatson4489 First, I must admit to espresso novice status. I purchased the OPUS from reviews, capabilities and an optimum price point to be used with a Flair Pro-2 manual espresso maker. As such I'm still dialing in and haven't had to "ring" it yet but I am getting close. So no, haven't touched it yet but I'm glad it's there if needed and especially when I move on to a "non-manual" machine.

@@dmoskaly I found there’s an amazing app for Opus that shows you where to dial each ring for the minor 16 micron increments. It’s called Beanie. This makes the OPUS able to do smaller adjustments than the Encore ESP which is only 20 micron at the espresso clicks. As long as you don’t mind adjust both rings. Essentially the app does the math for you! It probably didn’t exist at the time of these reviews but it’s a shame the comparisons probably aren’t entirely accurate saying ESP does finer adjustments. It appears that’s just not true when you factor in both rings. After discovering this, I bought the OPUS today. Excited to pair with my new Breville Bambino Plus

Thanks for this. I just got the Opus mainly for pour-over. I watched a number of YT reviews and this was the only one I found useful.

Isn’t the whole point of the inner adjustment ring to add micro adjustments to the outside steps? I don’t feel like you covered that well tbh.

He probably didn't really get to use the product before posting this video, he was paid to advertise. Inner ring is the crucial feature and he probably has no idea what the inner ring does.

The biggest mistake is setting the micro adjustment to the finest which then makes it impossible to micro adjust to finer. I would start off with the micro adjustment in the middle, brew the first shot and when close to dialing in the Expresso, then use the micro adjustment

Would the Opus be an upgrade from the Encore with the original m3 burrs for pour overs?

Not really. I wouldn't say it's much, if any, better than the Encore.

I’d love to know how drip coffee from this compares to the Ode. You said the grinds were fairly uniform, but not as much as grinds from the Ode. So I’d guess the drip coffee wouldn’t taste as wonderfully good. You did say it tasted pretty good, which seems to tell me it’s not wonderful, which drip coffee from my Ode surely is. But i’d love your further thoughts!

Just posted a full comparison between the two Fellow grinders, but I'd say the drip coffee from the Opus is average whereas the Ode is fantastic.

Thanks for the unequivocal comparison of the Ode and Opus for drip coffee. I got the Ode when it was new as a pandemic splurge, and was delighted by how much better drip coffee was than with the Baratza Encore I had. So next question - for a grinder great for drip, but workable for occasional espresso, would Wilfa Uniform be the choice? Not wanting to head into the financial stratosphere with the Niche! I see that James Hoffman thinks the Wilfa and the Ode are almost equal for drip, with Wilfa a hair ahead. But that’s just one opinion.
@HomeGroundsCoffee

Good question! I haven't had the chance to try out a Wilfa Uniform yet as they're only recently available in the US. I would say if James recommends it, go for it.

Could you monkey with the internal adjuster to bump the click settings on the exterior to dial in the brew time? Ha, I just saw the pinned comment. Yes you can!
